well the fever has struck again ,just arrived home in the new purchase ,a 1989 Range Rover donor vehicle purchased from Grimace
what a trip home from the coast ,had a blow out just out of canungra last night ,the only spare being a rangie mag wheel ,not bad if i had the mag nuts to go with, and the rangie was running sunraysias:o  :(
managed to get the mag on with a few threads on each nut and limped it to a rellies place at tamborine village, where after some frantic hither and thithering a replacement tyre was found , a spare tyre from a 15 inch commodore rim, some backyard mechanicing and the tyre was fitted to the sunraysia, albeit looking a little like somethnig seen in the "hood"
part 2 of the journey this after noon found me driving into Beaudesert with a white commodore with pretty lights on top on the side of the road,(at this point it will be stated that blow out "removed" right front indicator assembly ,so that coupled with no grill, some pretty strange looking skinny low profile tyres, and NO INTERIOR except for drivers seat, exhaust finishing in front of rear diff, strange looking crayon flame job on the bonnet, cut away guards MINUS flares thanks josh and the small matter of rego run out three weeks ago  )no one other than me and my launderer will know how much panic went thru my mind at that point
Mr Plod it seemed had something of interest on the seat that made him not see me as i quietly glided thru town ,then got the hell outta there:p
cruised thru Boonah then snuck around the back of Moogerah then finally HOME!!!!!!! then parked it just behind "Thumper",looked just like a pair of bookends only thumpy looks a little better:D :D
twas very lucky indeed:nazilock: :nazilock: :nazilock: :nazilock:

You're a braver man than me Freno
Sounds like an intersting run home and luckily you dodged the copper so that was a relief. Have to stop looking on e-bay as I always see a 'new' potential project to start

yes Josh i know the seat is yours,i was just wondering where the flares went:confused: ,also wish you could have at least left me one left rear door handle for thumpy so i could bring it back to orig,ah well ,should have got it earlier i spose:(
yes Harry ,i know it was highly Illegal to do what i did ,but what is one to do when local cop shop was shut on friday when i had time to go in and arrange a permit:nazilock: and yes,the motor seems quite strong, even with the auto that was a bit sus,it went exceedingly well, cant wait to get the time now to slot it in behind the five speed:cool:  and also transplant the long range tank and a few other little trinkets:cool:
and thanks for the xmas offer rob hay ,but i dont think i shall be needing it yet:wasntme:

:wasntme: i think the flares may have gone to Ringin (also a Josh and Skiboy's son) and don't know about the handle ;) those seats are going into the front of my fender so thats all i wanted

Not a bad effort Ferno, when you say donor vehicle, is that a spare parts donor vehicle or do you have some sort of master plan in mind. Matt

ahhhhhh, the the thot plickens, two Josh's,so thats where the confusion reighns, apologies extended, just another blond moment:confused: on my behalf Grimace may have told me all names and all ,but was probably miles away doing cost estimates in the head ,and just what parts i wanted from the rangie, will get the seat back down the coast as soon as i am down that way again,so will maybe arrange it with either yuorself or grimace as to where it actually will go to
cheers

tis a spare parts donor ,the engine was the main reason for purchase ,however on inspection there was a long range tank underneath, and the rear window frame was heaps better than mine,a set of two inch lifted springs in the rear, bullbar,so instead of trying to get the motor out 150 K's away, decided to get the whole vehicle and swap bits over as time permits:D
as for the left over bits ,,,,well it may make a great paddock basher or just sell off bits left over

You should do alright out of the donor, you'll get most of your money back, have a spare ECU and AFM as well as EFI setup so this should keep Thumper on the cheap side regards to matenence.
I just put a bid on e-bay on another dungar as a potential project, just can't help myself. Not selling the 87, too much work has gone into it at present to be sold, unless someone made me a great offer that I couldn't refuse!!!

a long range tank underneath
I only PMed Grimace about that long range tank last week. He said it was all gone. I'm not sure if it would have fitted my 94 Disco anyway.
Would have made for a difficult drive back if I had got the fuel tank :D
Hope the project goes well for you.

well thus far i have swapped over the rear window, today the bullbar was relocated to thumper and with some assistance from the knockometer, have managed to keep the steering protector setup on thumpy that has a front towbar setup on it:cool: was gunna try and use the nice soft steering wheel from the donor but alas:( it dont work, unless ,maybe some modification mite be necessary:twisted:
if time permits i shall try to get started on the removal of the engine on the w/e:cool:

The steering wheel will fit, the splines, etc.. are the same. I had an 83 bvefore my blue beast and had that style steering wheel on it. It's a bastard to remove but you need to persuade it a bit:twisted:

:D The steering wheel does fit,it had a hard plastic bit on the back that was held in by two plastic lugs ,a slight amount of pressure with a screwdriver and PRESTO out it came ,and then on it went ,so thumper has a nice soft touch steering wheel now too:cool:

Another thread missed by me :(
Ow its alot funnier now reading the story of the trip home, than hearing you tell me on the phone the next day.
Mang I am so glad the engine is good, it musta been all in my head (re: it seeming sluggish to me).
I also noted elsewhere that you got the engine transplanted and thumper up and running.... MORE FEED BACK AND PICS MANG.... DEF NEED MORE PICS.... Thats was my only link to 4wdin and it lasted me about 4 months :(
Now i have the white dunger POS here (looks like a giant slug in a field of rusty grass) not running, not gonna be finish, not gonna be used.... :(
So sad... ow sooo sad...
You forgot to tell everyone about your rola racks :D there still on the car here.... bout the only thing worth any sorta $ on it :)
Luv Grimace
p.s. Keen to see sum pics and more news on how everything else goes. This is kinda like my own build up that i actually have nuthing to do with.... its the only hope i have :( :D
