Hey Reads90, looks like you're from the warm, sunny end of the UK - it was always Brissy type weather whenever we ventured that far south. Can't think why you'd want to give up the M27 for the Ipswich Motorway or the Pacific Highway?!?! Maybe NOT!!

Actually we don't refer to it as a reprieve, it is commonly known as a 'Ticket of Leave' that gives you the freedom to wander the colony without let or hinderence from the New South Wales Corp

well I'm a pom came here in 1968 when i was 9 with my mother and brother from the midlands.i have never been back, still have a sister living in Blackpool. my mother and brother are both naturalized but I'm not.

now that they are changing the rules on citizenship i probably will take out citizenship myself. i didn't see much point in it before, there was no prestige in it you didn't have to know anything about the country and you didn't even have to speak the language. thats one thing i'll give the yanks there a lot tougher on citizenship than we are.

I was born there and came to WA when I was 7yrs old, been back a few times with the Govt work and once for a "Museum holiday" but I got citizenized as soon as humanly possible.. I am an aussie with a bad parents for having me there, not here, could be worse be like mel Gibson born in the USA..
coughing up to being a Pom is for me like owning up to a weird fetish:D:D:D

My company (not my company!) is ploughing through the permanent residency visa right now...

:D :D :D yeah was in the sunny part of the UK but the M3 and the M27 are a bloody nightmare compaired to the Ipswich motorway or the pacific highway. They don't know what real traffic is like:D :D

I was born and spent less than 30% of my life there. I've been lobotomised and handed a meat pie many a year ago and call Australia home.
I have been back twice on holiday and would not live there.

I go for Aus in all sports I watch

I stole an Aussie job and an Aussie woman, but the rest of Australian life has been stolen by America anyway so whats the problem

Yep I'm one. Came out in '72, elder brother paid the 20 quid for me and the cook, kids came free.
Still haven't paid him back as I haven't had me moneys worth yet.
We've been neutralised, teeth drawn and brains taken out, but the kids (they're 38 and 40 now I think!) haven't cos then they don't have to vote for the turkeys we've got in all our parliaments!
Last went back for a holiday in 1989 and had a good time but won't bother again.
Haven't even got a passport of either kind now.
Younger bro. wanted a reunion back there next year (he lives on Sydney Harbour, views of the bridge etc., elder bro. in Switzerland) but I can't be bothered.
Except for traffic lights on every corner in Perth, all I want is here, so not going anywhere else.
Alan.

Hmmm maybe because he's from Belfast and they don't believe that they are Irish living in Ireland and therefore voted against being part of the Irish free state.

Born in 1958, was dragged to Australia by parents in 1964 (l wanted to go to Canada to live to become a mountie) haven't been back to UK but have been to Canada and want to go back to Canada for another long holiday as soon as the Bank Manager takes his claws out of my wallet.

Born in OZ,

Can eat meat pies like the best of 'em and i dont mean porkie pies.
Been there many times but always come back home.
But hey that pommy passport can have its uses now that it is EEC.

But dad was the real deal Somerset lad complete with Scrumpy and accent. He married an aussie las in blighty then came back ere and raised 4 kids and then buggered orf back home after 305 years. I think he plans to come back to OZ when he retires in a few years.

It has rubbed off with my love of all things British and a warped sense of humour only the poms truely understand, but i am a flag waving Cold beer drinking Aussie who can pass as a pom when required.

Does it count if I'm from across the channel ?
I lost count of how many times my ancestors crossed over back and forth, silly buggers couldn't make their minds up what side they wanted to live on.;)

But been here in Australia for 37 years and have been naturalized, pasteurized, homogenized...and done my time in the green fatigues.

And still a bloody Frenchman to some:mad:

And Numpty's Missus was naturalised at the self same ceremony and jumped in the Datsun 720 (groan :( ) and headed bush with my Numpty and Bushie and a bunch of friends. It was a late night arrived in camp at about 2am as I recall :D and cracked a beer :p

I didon't mind being wed to a neutralised Pom. After all my Mum and Dad and elder brother and sister came out in 1949. All except Sis are neutralised. I was first of tribe born here, then another two brothers. Will go for a look one day.

Another 10quid job here, came out in 63 with mum,4 brothers and 2 of my 3 sisters (eldest was a nun and stayed behind, however she repented and has been here many years now, married and family grown up.)
Became a citizen in 78 here in Bris. Aussi wife of 31 years is not and never has been a SWMBO. In fact we are going to put "Mum's Car" prominently on the race car in recognition of the fact that she is our only sponsor. Hmmm! actually should put it on the Rangy aswell. neither would be happening without her generosity of spirit....and purse as I'm just a pennyless old POM.:)

hi all
yes, yet another pom
lived in perth for about 3 1/2 years, (time flies) and would NEVER live back in the UK. Nice to visit in the summer though.

I'm now an ozzie, I thought I might get a free accent thrown into the deal but I just got a chicken drumstick and a small plant.

Got my interview later this month.............Perhaps I'll be the one they reject????

You might find the paperwork has changed since you got it, it can be downloaded from the site.

Richard, I was surprised at the interview because they actually ask you all that stuff like, What are the privileges of becoming Australian etc so best start swatting up ! The bloke we got interviewing us was from Newcastle-upon-tyne :)

good luck

Aussie through and through, though pom is in the blood being a halfy, or would that mean "mongrel" :D. I once got asked by a Northener who lived next door what part of England I came from, was quite surprised as I have never been there, despite the old man and some rellies being Poms. Maybe it leaks out in the blood ;) , plus if you know any of the royal ancestory one of my rellies and what our family crest is, is the Black Prince of England, we have the original family tree on rice paper ( dated past the 1800's) with lineage of assorted kings and queens. Hence why as a young lad I used to boast that I was about 100th in line to the thrown  . Yep, ok boring now
