View Full Version : Locker goes "pshhhhhhhhh"

I just paid a lot of money to get that sound :D The things we do.
However doesn't it just suck when the place you pay good money to is a little on the stupid side?
I installed the compressor and all the wiring. All the ARB outlet had to do was fit the locker style tank with the fittings and the locker itself. I thought it a little steep when I was charged $54.55 for the compressor side of things. They didn't even put in a tee piece so I could still pump my tyres up! So after picking it up I went and bought the tee piece and fitted it myself. Only to find one of the compressor bolts sitting in the windscreen drain area and its nut and washers sitting on top of the inner guard. So I look at the compressor and find that they must have removed it as there are only 3 bolts holding it in. They left out the bolt that I know is the hardest to put in. Hardest but not overly difficult.
So basically I paid them $54.55 so that I could redo the compressor that didn't even need touching apart from bolting a tank on it and having two fittings screwed into it:2up:
That just reinforces the fact that if you want it done right you need to do it yourself. I just hope the locker itself is fitted correctly.
I was a little disappointed when I drove around our timber mill and tried a few places which I had previously thought would be great places to test a locker. Only to find out my Disco could drive them no trouble even with all terrains at highway pressure :o I need to set my sights higher

I'd be having a quiet word with the manager of the shop,,
nothing to lose,
he could even offer to re-check the installation.

ARB are not the best mob to deal with. Their customer service sucks and prices are a bit over the top most of the time.
Also it feels like they aren't all that enthusiastic to help out a Rover enthusiast when I've walked into one of their outlets.
Just my opinion.

I might call them later today. They would have been closed by the time I saw the screw up. I have fixed it myself and have had my rant here.
However I will never go back there. Not even for a bow shackle.
I did actually feel a bit wary leaving my car there after the stupid questions they asked when I was dropping it in.
They also asked me if I realised there was a small knock in the driveline. I told them yes and I have had it checked out and it is considered normal.
However when I drove it away and it went BANG in first gear and BANG into second I knew there was something wrong. I looked at the transfer lever and it must have been just teetering on the edge of high unlocked and neutral. I guess they don't know how to drive either.

I haven't had the car long. One ARB store I went to went on about how great they are offroad (drove a Range Rover:)). Another was giggling under his breath. Then this place that just didn't have a clue but asked if I had gotten it cheap after he mentioned the 'small knock'.

Considering the amount of Land Rovers that will never see dirt in there lives how many of the 5% are Land Rover owning morons, wasting potential?
Or am I a moron for taking mine offroad?

Some years ago in the days of a single antenna tab on the LHS of their bull bars I advised ARB that a number of Americans (on various 4WD lists to which I subscribed) who were buying their bars were bitching about the antenna being right in front of them. I suggested that for LHD export markets, they might consider moving the tab to the RHS.
I got a reply back from an A. Brown asking what it had to do with me. He also threatened to complain to my (then) employer about my using my work PC for private stuff.
I don't think I've bought from ARB since.

I'll have a stab and say that probably 95% of the 5% of Land Rover owners are morons. The other 5% of that are ENTHUSIASTS who appreciate a good thing when they see it.:D
Why would you be a moron for taking a Land Rover off road?? I am missing your point. Dont worry it happens all the time.:D :D :D

Yep its great to be able to go PSHHHHHHT.
I get to go twice if it gets real difficult with twin lockers.
The best investment I have bought other than my Sliders Both got a good work out today. :D
Saves a lot of work and wear and tear on the Disco on the hard stuff.

The front might come later but I reckon this setup (once the play tyres and rims arrive) will do me for a while yet.
I think sliders and perhaps a rear bar will be the next big things for this Disco. I like to have a go at things but am not too keen on unnecessary damage

I take the view to promote and recommend good service where possible, and equally to state poor service (Objectively where possible).
It would be good for others to know the specific store and type of problem.
I have been to ARB at Morphett Vale in SA, and they have been very helpful. There prices are not fixed, you can barter. I have tried to price match what I barter down to with others who will not even attempt to match the price. Sure they screwed up some of my wiring, however, with Me working late into the night with them, we fixed it, and they compensated me for it as well.
I have previously listed on the SA recommended suppliers Thread Link, people that I trusted and not trusted for parts and service and why, to share with others. Everyone should use their state threads, regarding service to recommend or not recommend based on the experience they have had.
Cheers.

ARB....
Also it feels like they aren't all that enthusiastic to help out a Rover enthusiast when I've walked into one of their outlets.
Yeah I walked into one ARB shop and as I approached the desk the fella said "Is that your LandRover?". When I replied yes he said "Don;t think we can help you with that". Perhaps he hasn;t ewad their own accessories catalog.
Another example: I contacted them asking whether they would consider making an airbag compatible bar for late Rangie Classics. I would have been satisified with a simple"Sorry No". What I got was a diatribe about how expensive it would be, that it's not worth it to them, that I should get a Nissan anyway coz they are better, yada yada yada. Not very professional at all.
Another example: I got an ARB bullbar fitted - I was quote happy with the bar and the fitting job. No dramas there. However when I was arranging it the ssales guy was pretty ****ed off that he couldn't manage tosell me a winch at the same time. He told me I'd be back 'next week' the get one fitted after 'the first time you get stuck'. I told him it was a Land Rover, I wouldn't get stuck. He seemed unconvinced. And he was wrong.
