skaife has a long way to go to get any where near the stature and personality of Mr Peter Brock, and i dont like holdens chances of FORD drivers just laying down and letting the dunnydoors win so they can give ol' Brocky a good sendoff

GO FORD!!:D :D :D :D

I agree

Holden will win all the way.....it will be a very different Bathurst this year as well, a very somber affair. I think that the KINGs death will not hit home to some of the drivers till the front two grid positions are left empty on sunday.

Brocky KING of the mountain!!!!!!!!!

Frankly, we all know the top end of town is about winning at at all costs, and now that dont have a major trophy taker to worry about in......

Brockie,

they'd all love that...miss him or not...

we'll all miss him, but I also miss some other names that are still with us,
like John Harvey, Colin Bond, John Goss, Freddie Gibson, Dick Johnson, Kevin Bartlett

Sentimentally, I'd like to see Glenn Seton FINALLY do it after 22 attempts. And Tony Longhurst not far behind, (these guys are perennial triers and deserves a break, just like the result of Bathurst 1976, remember?).

Lowndes in a Ford, watch out for the 'roos and tyres, Craig!

However, the winner will be Peter Brock.... and so should it be....in a HoldenGroup 5, BMW series 3, Volvo, Ford Sierra, Monaro 427, and many other things...

I still remember his outings in the A30 at Oran Park, do you? Yep I was there, too.......was he running against Pat Crea in the VW?

See you on Sunday. Mt Panorama forever!!!!!!

Does anyone remember Seton's drive at Bathurst in '87 (a bit overshadowed by the disqualification of the Sierras and Brock's last win).

In the pouring rain he was belting the older pre-Godzilla (2WD) Skyline down conrod on slicks, fish-tailing all the way. Fred Gibson (Nissan Team Manager) could not watch and demanded he come in and change onto wets before he killed himself. Probably the best touring car driving I have seen.

Apparently the supremos from NISMO Japan were watching and offered him a huge contract to drive their works Group C car, but he turned it down....(probably the worst decision of his career)....:( He stupidly walked away from Nissan and started his own Sierra based team.....

Seton/Richards in Godzilla would have been awesome and probably would have killed off Skaife's rise.

I really miss the showroom formula. Unfortunately many people who support this class don't like it when their car gets flogged.

The silly thing is that the class system where the fords and the holdens can do battle means the manufacturers actually have to try and build better cars so these people would get better product to buy. :)

The race, in my opinion was a lot better when, as you have said the cars were off the showroom floor, could be "blueprinted" to manufacturers specifications and no modifications (except if my memory(?) serves me right) to tyres.

AND there was the class racing included which made a number of races within the race and to me increased the interest.

AAAAHHHHH the days of Cortina GT's, GT500's, Mini Cooper S's.............

Come on guys, Skaife is a clown, Tander was heaps faster than him at sandown, if they win it will be because of him. Its unfortunate that the driver i hate the most is sharing a car with one i like.Longhurst won recently with Skaife, 04 i think, and the Skaife and Todd won it last year. What we have to remember is that the driver hit the hardest by Brock's death was Lowndes, Brock was a mentor for Craig and without brock's help craig wouldnt be where he is today.I am neither a holden nor a ford supporter, i just dont like Mark Skaife. It would be good to see Russell win, as it always is but i reckon Lowndes will have it if the car is reliable (which is isnt always) and he doesnt do what he did last year and clip the wall trying to set the world on fire in the first hour. The reason skaife and kelly won last year is because they settled into the groove, stayed out of trouble and plugged away until after the last safety car period. There is no point being in the lead on the first lap, you only need to be leading the last lap.Just bring on the race, its great no matter who wins, having said that i would like to see a ford win to break the 7yr drought and shut all those holden fans up. Matt

The Godzillas are a damn fast and good handling car. The issue I had at the time was they were not a production car, where as the Holdens and Fords could fairly much be bought as raced (at that time) the Nissan's could not. The lower spec version could but was nothing at all like the race version. At the time the Nissan's were $500,000 race cars with out spares compared to most Holden & Fords at around $100,000 in race trim. At the end of the day it was not a fair fight and all came back to money. Its like putting a GT3 Porsche up against a series 2 Landie. The bathurst win was the biggest croc as the Nissan actually crashed and the race was not cautioned and then red flagged for another 2 odd laps, which under the existing rules meant the Nissan was out. There were lots of crashes but still some 2wd s were getting around the track unscathed. I have watched the footage time and time again and there were no flags were the officials said there were and at the time. This has been doccumented many times since.
I would love to see them go back to the different class production format. While I like the Supercars they are not even close to what you can buy. The days of being able to buy Bathurst cars are long gone. Oh for the days of the A9X, E38 and GTHO's.

He has allready won it before in the Nizzon GTR

I was at the F1 in Adelaide a year or two after the your all a POA event when Godzilla reigned supreme. The car was on show in the street, I still cannot believe the mentality of the people spitting on a car cause it wasn't a Ford or Holdens

No, the race has been hijacked by the touring car racing industry and all the original ideals have gone out the window.
It's now purely a Ford vs Holden race.

V8 Supercar driver David Clark remains in a critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Sydney’s Nepean Hospital.

David was treated at the Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst by medical staff before being airlifted to Sydney aboard the CareFlight helicopter to Sydney.

He is being treated for a collapsed lung, fractured pelvis, right arm and knee cap. Initial tests have not discovered any further significant internal injuries.

Clark was joined in Sydney last night by his wife Leah, eight-month old daughter Reese, mother Lillian and mother in-law, Kath.

His remaining two children, Kyle (7) and Ashleigh (4), remained in Adelaide with relatives.

He has made good progress overnight and is conscious. The team has issued a statement which is available.

Mark’s condition remains unchanged.

Mark was initially treated at Bathurst Hospital and airlifted to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney where he remains today.

Any further information will be relayed to the media at an appropriate time.

We thank all of the medical services and staff that were involved in their treatment.

Further information will be provided as it comes to hand.

Our thoughts are with the families of Mark and David, their respective teams and friends.

We are working closely with the V8 Supercar Chaplain Garry Coleman to assist the families in every way we can.

The respective families are in all of our thoughts at this very difficult time.

It would have been good to see seton take skaifes spot and knock skaife off. Without all his good fortune team wise skaife wouldnt be where he is today. What the hell has he done since project blue print came in and HRT lost the Walkinshaw (until this year anyway) advantage. Skaife is a good driver but his domination from until 2002 was due largely to the fact that HRT had much more factory and overseas support and was a much faster car. Since every other holden team and ford started backing more teams Skaife has been swallowed in the crowd. Matt

It was actually great when young Perkins slammed into Skaife. I was dreading todays race because Skaife was winning everything.

Imagine if it was only a slipping clutch and he started racing from the back of the field. No-one else would have had any TV coverage as Channel Ten/Skaify love fest would have been on.

Absolutely brilliant that he was out on the first lap..it switched all the attention onto the others for a change.:p

Bugger that I missed most of the race coz I had to work but I saw a few updates during the day and the last hour or so.

What the VCR had to go on ebay to pay for rangie parts did it vlad. :D

Couldnt agree more about the whole skaife thing, cant stand the man. I feel sorry for tander though, the cheated to get him into HRT to drive with skaife to spread their (toll HSV racing and HRT) chances of keeping their top drivers in the championship hunt and it back fired. Still seeing skaife get swamped on the line and then the cameras cut back to his smashed car did bring a rather large smile to my face. :D :D What a race. Matt

Sorry. :( I recorded the WHOLE race on our PVR and paused when I had stuff on, and when I did get to the telly I could fast forward through all the boring bits. :) At one point I got up to live, so I went off and did some jobs and came back later :)

Anyway, good fun result. :)

I stopped watching it many years ago. It is as boring as all get out now and has been for years.

It used to be good in the days of different classes and lots of different brands when really fast cars were lapping the likes of HB Vauxhall Vivas, etc.

I only ever went once, back in about 1967.

PACE cars are part of modern motor racing mate, as a safety issue. The alternative is the red flag and nobody wants to see that. A rolling start would screw it up though, too yank !

And it wasn't won and lost on Pace cars, if that were the case they would have had the Pace car out at the end but instead Craig had to use his racecraft and SUPERIOR SKILL right to the end !

Say, does that make Lowndes the only driver to have won Bathurst ina HOLDEN and a FORD ??

I dont have a problem with pace cars,,
I HAVE a problem with using flatbeds to retrieve broken cars,,

which is why they need pace cars,,

why do they need to take ANY car back to the pits?

to save the teams from coming back up the mountain after the race??

its crap,,
skull drag the things off the track, clean up the mess and let the cars race,,

I'm afraid, unless you can present a business plan to Ford and holden showing them how they will make more money it isn't going to happen. :(

Loved the finish!!! Last winner in both makes I think was Steve Richards.
Won with Bright for Stone Bros. and also with Murph in a Commode.
Glad Murph went out too......

Nah. Longhurst for one has one it in both (Sierra in '88 and Commodore/Chevy in the last couple of years). I am sure there are others.

I don't like the pace cars....does not reward the driver who drives his bum off all day to get a good lead just to have it chewed up by the pace car. It has turned the race into a series of mini-sprints. You would not try and push too hard in fear of breaking the car when any lead you get will dissolve at the next pace car.
