Coil Sprung series vehicle?

Hi there

I am intersted in building a coil sprung series IIa SWB.

Has anyone know of any good web sites with pictures or contact details of anyone whom has done this sort of modifications.

Have you tried Googling the sort of details you're looking for? Hybrids seem to be how most people go - with a cut down classic Range Rover chassis. A long time ago I saw a good UK site with a conversion on a Series III with plenty of photos but don't know the address- I'd just be googling myself for it.

I've got to wonder why you'd do it? Are parabolics not good enough for you? Or is it a deep desire to make something yourself?

Converting the series chassis can be done but unless your doing it on a "cause I wanna" basis your better off grabbing a rangie chassis and building up from that.

Unless your planning on going the route of coil springs assisting then its easy enough to pull the bump stops and fit spring plates between the chassis and the axle.

I have seen it done, a good day of measuring, welding and fabricating would get the chassis work done.
I know where you can get the parts.
The thing is, is the expense.
The axles would have to be changed, then you get disc front brake at least, so a servo(booster) will need to be fitted, then you still have the crap steering on the series motors.
Where do you stop?

Might be why I'm TRYING to sell my Stage 1 and bought a 110 County to replace it...

Not knocking coils, but I do think coil conversion is something akin to mountain climbing - you do it because you like the challenge, not because it makes any sense to have the finished product.

And there are a lot of people in the UK who've done it. They can't all have rocks in their heads (can they?)

Many thanks for all the responses - my purpose is to have something thats different, very capable but most importantly a sence of achievement and satiscfaction.

I have axcess to three two door rangies - all running but bodies U/S therefore parts are not an issue.

Well I will keep colating information with the intention of starting after Christmas - any additional information is greatfully eppreciated.

There are several companies in the UK that make coil Sprung Chassis for Series vehicles, it might be worth while googling up www.richardschassis.co.uk (http://www.richardschassis.co.uk) or marsland chassis or another one is Designer (designa)chassis, it may be cost effective to import a complete coil chassis, or to get a 110 chassis from a wreck, fit a Series Firewall and outriggers as the panels fit from the Series, you may have to use the 110 front guards to keep the semetry of the front wheel aches.
