Hi all,
I'm currently siting at lake mckenzie using my pda to browse the site so I thought I would post abd say gday and give you all a running report :)
Day 1 didn't go to well... got held up leaving and didn't leave till 2am monday morning, rain slowed us up and we also got held up by a big accident on the highway north of brisbane. We had a quick stop at gympie for supplies - the local butcher makes awesome cheese kranskys :) - made it to rainbow beach at around 4:50 so we didn't get much time to organise our passes so we thought we would spend the night there, got a self contained room at the caravan park, had a quick swim in there pool and got some much needed sleep - well worth the 83 dollars it cost for the night.
anyway I am off for a swim in the lake might post something later about today if I can get mobile reception
Mick.

when you see the grey90 rocking, dont go a knocking.......brings up some lovely memories of having a quickie in the backs of 110's..but a 90 would be a bit uncomfortable..
Feed a Dingo for me....

Hi cal415, sounds like the trip has been great so far. Look forward to your pic's hope you took the camera.
so far I have about 500 pics :)
well trying to find good mobile signal to use the net has been hard, I am now camped on orchid beach and have a decent signal here, we did the sandy cape yesterday, along with a massive 2 door rangie running 37s and 350 chev!! so getting stuck wasn't such a worry
the top end of the island is a definete must, by far the best place we have been to, we saw dolphins so feeding right on the shore line, they actualy chased one fish right out of the water on to the sand! and huge sea turtles, atleast 10 scattered around the beach relaxing in the sun, there were also large sting rays and other dark shapes swimming around, the fishing up there was also great, we got around 10 dart and a large taylor in about an hours worth of fishing.
at the moment we are considering moving camp to he other side of the island as we hear its a nice place too, camping at this end of the island has been the best so far, its a lot less touristy and there no troupies or hire cars to pull out :)
anyway will post up more later.

bugger, pda keeps eating my posts.... just typed a huge one on this thumb keyboard and then it dissapeared.... arrgggg
anyway, camped at orchid beach now, great to be away from the troupies and hire car,, no more need to help stuck cars up this end of the beach... oh besides the broken down patrol 2 camps sites up, we have good neighbours here, about 500m away still, we drove to the sandy cape with them yesterday, they are in a 2 door rangie with 37s and a 350 chev.... took the stress of getting stuck away with a back up vehicle like that.
Met heaps of landy lovers - definetly a special kind of people, traveled with an older 2 door for a few days, then another awesome d2 with 33s and excellent bar work, now with another 2 door, all just people we have met here, and yes I have told them all to get on aulro when they get home!
the sandy cape was definetly the best spot on the island so far, we saw dolphins chasing fish so close to the shore that the fish came out of the water onto the sand, there are no waves up the, we also saw heaps of sea turtles sunning themselves on the beach and other large dark shapes in the water, we had a very quick swim, couldn't resist the water was so blue and so warm, and fishing there was so easy, caught about 10 dart and a large taylor in about an hour of fishing, simply just an awesome spot to go!
We are now looking at heading to the other side of the island for a camp, will post more later.

looks good, I checked out wuthumba today but didn't like my chancces of crossing that swampy creek to get out on the beach
what's the best way to get there?
had a huge day today only just got back to orchid beach - wind is blowing really bad here, gota leave tomorrow before it destroys my tarps and tent.
drove to wuthumba then back to orchid beach then all the way back to eurong and over to king fisher, then up to urang through the bush tracks and onto moon pt then back to kgari, by this time it was 8pm and high tide, so it was an interesting drive back here.... long day in the truck.....

Head west from Kgari via the knifeblade sandblow track all the way till you get to the western beach via either the Woorlie Creek or Awinya Creek track, but I think Awinya is still closed.
From there turn north and if you get to Wathumba you have gone to far, this is what it looks like.
