Hi all,
Wonder if I could get some advice?
My gal & I are having a week in Port Douglas (16-23 Dec) which gives us a week to get down to friends in Brissie to see in the new year.
We'll be in a hire car:( as camper prices are:eek: so we'd like some idea of where to (try) and stay along the way...I know we might end up kipping in the car if there's no room at the inn but any advice would be helpful!

Ta,
Marky

G'day Marky,
Even when we travel without our camping gear, the missus and I still prefer and onsite van or cabin (preferably with ensuite) in any of the caravan parks. You have the facilities to whack up a quick snack at any time and they are generally the cheapest acommodation. It'll be bloody busy at that time though - the car may be the only choice at times.
Cheers.....

We enjoy country pubs. Not extra flash, but usually clean and cheap .. with the added bonus of meeting a few of the locals.

This should only take 24-26 hours driving time, depending on the prescence or not of the professional photographers. Not much sleep needed if you are planning an express trip. Say 6 p&p&p (pills, p--s, & petrol) stops. If touring, not driving, then country pubs get my vote.

Took us 18hrs, Coolangatta to Cairns straight through(Admittedly in the 110), with no fines; I'd find it hard to imagine you'd do the gatta to even the Vic border in under eight hours, minus the 45mins Port Duggy to Cairns.......van parks for a quiet sleep, pubs great if you don't feel the need to get up early..
