View Full Version : Tour of the Maxi Drive Factory
MickG
23rd October 2006, 11:54 AM
Thanks to Justin detonating his rear diff at the weekend and his subsequent visit to and conversation with Maxi Drive this morning, Mal Storey has very kindly agreed to open up his factory and host a club night for GCLRO members and their guests. Mal will be on hand to answer any questions anyone has specific to their pride and joy and will also be able to demonstrate various parts/products and their specific vehicle application. Time permitting, we may also witness some his toys in action - namely his rear steer defender!!
At this stage I am looking for a show of hands of who might be instersted in coming along for a couple of hours one evening so please post here if you can make it.
Date is tentatively booked in for Wednesday 29th November at 6.30pm. Depending on numbers etc, we may put on a BBQ for the night in which case there may be a small cost for attendance.
All details wil be confirmed nearer the time.
I for one will be clearing the credit card ready for a possible purchase or if Em finds out where I'm going, she will be shredding it before the night.....the credit card that is:eek: ;)
For those considering a purchase, or wishing to know how Maxi Drive gear can benefit your Land Rover, this night will be perfect.........even if it is only to witness a bunch of land rover fanatics salivating for an evening over lumps of the most beautifully crafted engineering creations:D
Hope to see you there and my hand is firmly in the air for this one:D

May be interested to come along to this event

Mal would be happy I'm sure to take your credit card details over the phonw for some gear.....after all a large portion of his business is over the phone orders and export.
Also PM sent re. D2 gear.

When you see the factory, and meet Mal you will understand why. Its only a humble little factory that turns out a superb product and great technical support.(these 2 things are almost impossible to find in a company anymore) Just the way Mal likes it. Word of mouth is the best advertisment:D

Just to clarify, please can you let me know if you are NOT coming alone for this tour as all extras will count towards the 15 max. We have capped this tour and insisted on financial members only due to limited space in certain areas of the factory but mainly out of courtesy for Mal at Maxi Drive and the fact he is letting virtual strangers into his inner sanctum;)

I was all set to leave work at 5. I reckoned it would take 1:15 to get there so should be at maxi-drive at 6:15. 4:40 major crisis strikes. :( I got to the carpark (bris) at 5:30 thinking I'll only be 15 minutes late... still worth it. Unfortunately everyone decided to leave the carpark at the same time because of the storm. The line stretched up two stories   :(
I didn't get out of the carpark until 6pm. :( :( I thought by the time I get there it will be 7:15 and I would probably have missed most of it, so turned for home instead. Sorry, I bet you all have a great night and I'm dessimated. :( I would have called but I didn't have any phone numbers :(

yeah you slack bastard... excuses excuse
just got home alittle while back at 10pm... how's that for a tour and showing of EVERYTHING they do... but best thing is (other than no one havig a damn camera) is his yellow defender he's built up for his farm... completely simplified for farm life so nothing can break and running the most beautiful drop boxes i've ever seen.
And then his hand built beasty with rear wheel steer... now that would be great to fix the turning circle in EVL.
Thanks for organising Dranged... much appreciated

I think the shirt idea is a good one as an appreciation for Mal's time and expertise about his product. Also found out a bit more history on my 'old' style Maxi in the rear of my Rangie.
Mal is a great bloke, hands on and willing to explain and answer queries about his prioduct. Plus takes critisism in a positive way as well to improve his gear (not that it does).
Like a set of 30% reduction low range gear set, buut being broke nd close to Christmas it's not the best timing. Put uit on the short list for next year though.

Mal is a very smart and wise man I was very impressed with the work shop. You could see some of his enthusiasm that he thought that he had lost about what he loves in his work, (Great to See someone in there element). I agree that a GCLRO polo shirt is a great idea and give him a sticker and instructions how to put it on for that awesome Defender. Would be a fitting tribute for the club to have that sticker on that Land Rover.
