Hi,
I bought my last SIIa ex army from the old auctions at Holsworthy.
Do the Army still do the Public Auctions, or is it outsourced these days.
Keen to start looking at what is getting retired. ie: Trucks and Landy's.
I tried googling around but can't find a hit.
Cheers.

Hi there
Well there hasnt been alot of ex army gear going to auction - they just seem to be rebuilding-refurbishing the old landys.
When they eventually do - there will be alot of intersted people.

Hey Dobbo,
I knew, using the heading, that I would get a quick response.
So would they still do it directly, from Holsworthy or would they go throught the likes of Pickles.

I hear mutterings about trailers appearing soon, but nothing concrete yet. I've seen bridging leopards and some other tank type stuff appear on Slattery auctions. Otherwise a lot is released through pickles, but no land rover stuff for some time.

I moved from Glenfield a few years ago but from memory the old auction site is now Pickles, can anyone confirm this?

I thought they might start flogging gear off so they can pay for the bushmaster's.
Gee, I would consider giving up my 110 to get my hand on one of those babies.
Consider, that is. I would have to take a bushy for a test drive first.

G'day All, my sixpence worth, Pickles have been doing the auctions for some years now, most of the fleet of 110's are going through Tenix Albury/Wodonga for a refit that will probably see them through for at least the next 10 years, so if it's any consolation I won't be in the market for a 110 ex-military, in fact I may not even be alive:( u never know!!! do you.
My 110 3.9 diesel will probably still be going strong:p , but I could be a back seat driver by then:p :p :p :( anyway cheers Dennis:wasntme:

Pickles auctions take care of 90% of the ex mil stuff. The mob out near holsworthy is best.

There is listed in the current "Land" an auction at Wallangara army base last Saturday (sorry, didn't get the Land until yesterday), run by a Tenterfield auctioneer Ray White. No vehicles listed, but "numerous sundries" which may have had some useful bits. So it seems that they have auctions with a variety of agents. Also, the "Land" does list some of them.

G'day Folks :)
That is an interesting one, Holden Motor, Duel Fuel, I wonder if it has an Automatic in it  the colour doesn't look quite right a bit light for DBGreen, but it would be nice to match the Chassis No to the ARN lists:)

I rekon the 110 with the Isuzu would be worth grabing.
What sane person would pay any decent $$$ for an old boneshaker without realising how good they really are???

There are plenty about. It all depends on how much you are prepared to pay.
When I first saw this one it was $3,000

I went to a army auction at bathurst many years ago and the price of the stuff was unreal, not only that there was people there that looked like they trolled auctions for a living and left most people behind. They had about 50 or more boats that were used to cross rivers that went to a scraper and lots of the stuff went in bulk lots, there was PTO winches still in thier box's wrapped in wax paper, they went for bugger all,a few hundred bucks but you had to buy something like 20 of them. The worst part about it was I got a tank of cooking oil instead of diesel and it cost me $900 at Berima Diesel to repair the damage. I spend a lot of time at auctions looking for stock, specific lines of tools and machine shop supplies. You get to know all the regular faces. Genuine dealers do not pay high. They expect to resell at a decent profit. Most know their stuff and commonly specialise in certain areas. If you notice you are bidding against dealers, take note of the point at which they pull out.
From a dealers point of view the worst auctions are those that attract end users who often have no idea of second hand values, and relate to what they have to pay retail for new items, not knowing that list prices are commonly carrying margins large enough for both distributors and dealers in the supply chain, and enough margin to "discount" as required to make a deal. Often more than 50% of the retail price.
Other "bad" auctions are those that have lots of bric-a-brac and miscellaneous items. These attract flocks of flea market grubs (tax dodgers and dole/pension cheats) who seem to buy anything and everything and generally pay more than dealers would.

Most commonly when a lot consists of a number of the same item, the auctioneer will call for bids "per each". The successful bidder will be asked how many he wants. If he does not take all then the auctioneer will ask if anyone else wants any at that bid. If no takers then the balance will be put up again. Often interest has been awoken and the next successful bid is higher.
Less commonly the auctioneer will call for bids for the entire lot in one line.
You can approach the auctioneer beforehand and ask if he will be selling the lot "per each" and suggest that he do so. He may not, depending on his instructions from the vendor.

Have seen about 10 car carrying semis between Coffs and Ballina this afternoon full of 4x4 perenties. Hard tops and soft tops.
