3.5ltr low comp engine running duel fuel. The vehicle hasn't been driven for a while but went to use it the other day but when it idled, then engine stopped running however when it runs on petrol, it's fine at idle.

Any ideas how to get the gas right?!!

Thanks,
Stu

You may have to adjust the timing out to 10 - 12 tdc.

Or maybe, as it hasn't been driven for a while - a good blast up the road @ 90km/h to give a good clean out.

Have a look at where your timing is at the moment - and if it's below 10 Degs TDC then increase it gradually up to where it's running better.

It ran fine up until I stopped driving it. It had been serviced not long before.

I have a Crane Fireball electronic ignition but not sure how I advance the timing?

Cheers,

Stu,
Unless you have one of those fancy electronic ignition units that alter the timing on the distributer when you swap fuels, then you will either run well on gas or run well on petrol, it won't be both. If The dizzy is set half way, then it will run just ok on either, not well on either.
To retard the ignition you loosen off the nut under the distributer and turn it clockwise, advance is obviously the opposite, make sure the engine is warmed up first.
Anyway, this won't be your current problem, you may have a sticking solenoid, try swapping back and forth whilst on the move.
Cheers

p.s. I have the same ignition module, its great, but does not have dual fuel capability

The other thing you might want to check is your coolant level. If the level is insufficent you may not be warming the converter. I had this happen to me it would Idle but when I tried to drive it it would die.

also check the sense lead that runs from the dizzy/coil to the little black box that controls the lpg system. That came off in kermit and it the one that lets the system know the engine is turning so gas will be allowed to flow.

quick check for it is to have someone cycle the ignition while on lpg you listen under the hood you should hear solenoids cycle on then a few seconds later off. then have them start it. If it fires and stalls out after a second or 2 you have your culprit.

make sure you are using a genuine rotor button. Seems a simple thing but mine wouldn't run on lpg until i put a GENUINE on in.

Took it for a run on the weekend. Seems to backfire (pop) through the carbies on deceleration...... dunno if this changes anything?

Change the leads and spark plugs. If the leads have too much resistance it will run fine on petrol, but not on gas.

Sparks plug were new at last service <1000kms ago. I'd have thought the leads would have been changed at the same time, as the crowd I took it too specialise in Carbs and Gas.....

I found the idle adj screw and have sorted that angle but it still "pops" back through the carbs.
