Just got back from this years sydney motor show, wasnt to bad, was worth the trip down. Saw the new Freelander, very nice, looks every bit as impressive in real life as it does in the photos, is quite a bit bigger than the old one, they didnt have prices though.
I also had a look at the hummer holden will be importing next year. Its no where near as big as the one they sell in the US, and only comes with a ****y 3.7L 5cyl Petrol engine, 180kw, but who cares when its shifting a couple of ton, will have to wait and see. The windows are really narrow so when you are sitting in it the dash is up high and the roof is low, the doors are also up high so the window is smaller, feels like you are inside an enlarged version of ned kelly's helmet. Looks impressive though, reasonable room, but given it is smaller i wouldnt say it has anymore room than a cruiser or patrol, in the end i dont reckon its any bigger externally than a 100 series. I didnt get down on the ground and look at what its running on i had marcos on my shoulders. They couldnt tell me how much it will be, the display one didnt even have the steering wheel on the right so thats how far along it is. Matt

Matt,
The Hummer is the same H3 that is sold in the US (Horatio's car in CSI Miami) - you were probably thinking of the military H1. Early reports (yesterdays Canberra Times) have the cost between $60-70K in Australia but Holden acknowledge it will take a huge marketing campaign to sell it is Aust.

I saw reports on thursday claiming should be under $60,000 so I took it as $59,990 plus onroads, delivery etc.
Yes it is the H3 so the baby of the line up. The H1 is only sold to the military now so you can only get the H2 or H3 new in the US.

The H3 has a torsion bar front end, rear leaves (underslung!) and traction control. The engine is old tech, 4-speed auto or 5 manual, petrol with an 87l tank. There is little space in the cargo area, even less than a Patrol. No 7-seater. Weighs 2260kg or so and can carry an awesome 450kg.
On paper it's not impressive. Have to wait to drive one before a final judgement though.

Just going by what the holden bloke said,he told me the ones being brought to Australia are smaller than the H3 sold in the US, i am aware that it is the H3 we are getting, but even the H3 that Horatio and the guys from American Chopper drive is bigger than this one, you can tell that when they sit in them. I bet the one they sell in the use has a bigger engine aswell. Matt

Thanks for the pics.
Interesting but I don't think I would buy one. There is a lot of old school about it interior and underneath. They are tough as an urban warrior type implication but I think i would stick with a D3 for bush driving.

They have the price to compete with the D3 and the technology to compete with a Series III.
I'll stick with the Defender, or even the SIII.

Hi Folks,
I just returned home from the Syney Motor Show as well.
The Hummer H3 is nowhere near as big as the H2. The H2 is not as big as the H1. Having seen a convoy of military H1s on Interstates in the USA - I can say they are a formidable machine! They have H2s on CSI Miami, not H3s or H1s.
The main reason for visiting the show for me, was to show the wife the D3 and see what goodies they had there. They had a V6 SE and on a ramp, the blue show car with the flags of the countries where it won awards - that was at the snow earlier this year.
They had not received their stock of goodies for sale, so we took an order form. The stainless steel mugs, stainless thermos, etc looked good and will probably order some.
The quality of the D3 was clearly apparent. Open a door and it felt solid. Close it, and there was a satisfying clunk. The seats were comfortable and solid, leather quality was great.
I later visited the Mitsubitchi stand to see the new ******, I mean, Pajero. Sorry, but it is a piece of plastic junk! The doors sounded like they would break... the plastic bits - like door handles, latches, etc felt like they would break within a year... the beige seats already had stains on them from people hopping inside... it was really... well, cheap! And considering this was the "Exceed" model - which is priced near the D3 SE, I had to laugh. :D
The clincher for us - with 4 kids (aged 13/15/17/17) - was the rear row seats which are full-sized in the D3. In the Mitsubitchi - the usual seat cushions on the floor and knees in front of your eyes position.. no thanks!
It made my wife really happy with my choice of the D3.
If only the LR fulfillment processes were better. I started looking at D3s in May (the dealer told me last week), and I ordered in June. The leasing company finally allowed the dealer to order in July. September build... late October delivery to Australia... 2.5 - 4 weeks from arrival to delivery.
FWIW, also saw a number of cars which will be high on the list to replace the BA XR6 as my wife's run-about. Especially considering our two eldest kids are doing their HSC at the moment, and will depart the nest in about 5 years after uni. After visiting the Waeco stand, I was hoping I could then fit the 120+ litre fridge in the back, rather than the 23 litre one which they told me would fit there now with the 3rd row seats. Otherwise, I had better start welding up a new camping trailer!
Cheers,
Rob
PS. We later visited the James Squire Brewhouse at King St Wharf... had some nice beers and meal... now starting to feel tired... must have been the meal! :)

I didn't read in any of the previous posts about it being AWD and not 4WD, it's been reported that it will only be AWD:eek: what would be the point of that.
Also the H1, H2 are civilian copys based on the chev Tahoe, and the HUM VEE is military, the only similarities is HUM.
