Thought they would be fantastic for loading up with luggage when touring, small, lightweight, waterproof, cheap....
All good except for the cheap part, gave them a ph call last night approx $2.5k, to expensive for me :(

hmmm.... my "pod" one cost me $1000.
Managed to score a great second hand off road trailer, modded my roof bars to fit the side bars on it and then chucked my roof box on them.....
3 things in one!

Okay... in the end i bought one
We leave for holidays on Thursday and i had no way of moving the stuff required!
Some of my suggestions to Catherine have been-
1. Sorry we cant take any Xmas presents so you don't need to shop anymore
2. Make sure all the Xmas presents are small, she returns shopping with a bike
3. We have a choice we can take Xmas presents or clothes, not both
4. We can take the Xmas presents and clothes but not the kids
5. We can buy a Pod trailer
One Podtrailer on the Mastercard (Visa already full)
I may have to sell the kids in January to pay for it tho!

geez that sounds familar
i'm trying to pack a cub camper for our next month or so on the road
i asked that megs consider buying small presents and maybe arrange for a somebody at the other end to purchase some for us - i now have to try and squeeze big present into spaces that are not big enough plus i have to make sure the kids don't see them foro the four days that we are travelling prior to xmas
god knows what we will end up with and the fact that i will have to drag around tassie with already limited storage space.
i just can't see the kid after only having one day with there presents agreeing to leave them at somebody elses place that they hardly know for the 20 days while we are over seas, well tassie

I keep getting told -
"you have to be nice to us"
"we get to choose your retirement home"
and my reply is -
"and i get to choose how much debt you will inherit"

The "Pod" worked a treat for our recent trip, it was 1/3 full with alcohol, 1/3 full with Xmas pressies and 1/3 full with food, clothes and stuff. It also had 4x bikes, helmets and inflatable boat up on top....It was like a life size game of Tetris trying to fit everything in....i reckon with the way i fill it up i might have to add brakes to it at some stage :)

Hi there matt.
Just readying up on the podtrailer and came accross your post which was helpful especially with the photos.
Just wondering if you have any more feedback after owning the trailer since January. Any further good or bad points you can provide.
I am looking at purchasing one but the proce tag is making me hesitate.
We have a small hatch back car (2.0l), but need a trailer for gardening and stuff and the pod would also be good for holidays etc to take extra luggasge as you have explained above. Also the light nature of the trailer sounds good for my small car.
Any feedback would be appreciated by yo uor anybody else has one of the pods.
thanks
Kim

Doesn't time fly ... we've had "Poddy" for nearly a year.
To be honest it hasn't really been used very much in that time, the Xmas trip, picking up furniture using the roof racks and helping people move house.
We bought one of the very first manufactured Pod trailers from Blackburn trailers and hence got it at a slightly reduced price.
When i had it home i wasn't happy with the fit of the rear tailgate it had a dip between the top tub and the top of the rear gate and didnt seal.
I gave them a call (they are made in Carrum) and the young guy down there was most helpful and apologetic.
I dropped it down the next day and left it for a couple of days whilst the changed the rear gate with one of the newer moulded gates and made some minor changes to update it to the current spec. Apparently they have changed the mounting method of the tub as they found that due to expansion and contraction due to the heat up North they needed to allow for a small amount of movement.
Whilst i was picking it up I had a chat to them for about an hour or so, its only a small company and the owner originally came up with the idea after getting sick of his stuff always getting wet when they were holidaying with tarps flapping away.
Ummm... let me think ... what else?
Ahh... some of the testing they did was to fill it up with boulders to the water line and drag it around a bumpy paddock to see if they could break it.
I also asked why they are so expensive, apparently they are all Rota moulded which is time consuming, im a little vague on specifics but if i remember correctly each tub takes 2 guys 4 hours to complete and this is done by a 3rd party.
I was accidentally sent a price list which included the Dealers buying price, (i might still have it somewhere) and they were making about 10-15% margin.
I hope this helps.. if you need any other info just let us know.

I saw a pod trailer the other week as well........
It was in Matts driveway lol :D
They look great, are a top idea, I think they are worth the money when you see the quality in them though they are out of my price range.
The only negative I can see is that if for some reason you did damage it e.g. backing it into something and breaking it then even though you can quite easilly weld the plastic for repair, if the frame got bent it would be an endless problem.
But in saying that, they would take a hell of a lot more to damage than a steel trailer does.
We have Roto moulded plastic trays on some of our run abouts on the Golf Course and they are damn near indestructable and the guys have tried.
Great tough little trailer.

That you could take the racks off, turn the lid over, block the holes and use it as a dinghy? It would save carrying one.

Hi Kim,
Did you go ahead and buy the "pod"? If so, do you like it and did you get a good deal?
If not, are you still thinking about it? I spoke to the manufacturer at the 4x4 show on the weekend and he indicated that he would do a good price if we were buying more than one trailer at a time.

Tristan

Ordered mine a few weeks ago. Saw the stand at the 4WD/camping show at Homebush on the weekend. Should be in production this week. Bit of a rush on for Christmas apparently....
Now I can get more "stuff" to go in it!

Trailers like this are extremely popular in South Africa.
They are light enough to be towed by modest-sized cars, weatherproof and lockable.
Most of the ones I have seen there are more boat-shaped, made of fibreglass with a box section frame.

Hi CGM - if you dont mind me asking, did you get the "off-road" trailer, and if so, what price did you get it at?
thanks in advance

Sorry for not seeing this post. I got the basic trailer with pod lid. Didn't see myself doing much 4WDing with the trailer. Was a bit over 3K from memory with the galvanised chassis and pod lid. Not cheap but well built.
any feedback on how the pod trailers are holding up?
Mine's holding up well but then again it doesn't get that much use. Great for storing my camping stuff when not in use as I have limited storage at home.
Last year I added a jerry can holder and 2 gas bottle holders. Nice to get those items in the open air. This year I've just added the Rhino Rack roof bars to carry a few light items on top. Ordered the extras from Stockman down in Victoria and fitted them myself. All pretty much bolts on.
Newer models have a longer drawbar which would be nice. Think Phil from Stockman said they could retrofit but I'd need to take it in for that to happen.
The rear door just clears the spare tyre btw. Would be an issue with the shorter drawbar and taller accessories fitted on the drawbar (gas holder/jerrycan holder etc.)
Here's a pic from last year.
