is it possible to get campertrailers over indian head and above at christmas time or is it too chewed up for a tdi to be pulling one up thru the chewed up approaches?

tossing up on whether to take the camper trailer or pack the tent in the army trailer?

heard stories about it being VERY hard to get a camper trailer over indian head that time of year......

It can be hard but it can be done.

Ngarla - good luck. It depends on the day, but some 4WD's by themselves cant get through there, and then you need to drag it up the dune and off the beach at the tip.

I would have thought you'll be fine to get up past Indian Head. Just bag the tyres, lock the diff, and smoke it up!

There are heaps of nice places up there. Only thing is I can't see you getting the trailer past Ngkala Rocks unless the sand builds up and you can get along the beach. The bypass tracks were a bit wild when we were there last. :O

Don't forget to keep checking the Fraser Island Conditions Report (http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/publications?id=1663).

It is beyond gorgeous up there... go on you know you want to. :)

The other option is to camp at Dundaburra. It's just north of Eli Creek. That way if you want to explore north it's not to far to go. It's a nice campground too :)

What about beach camping at Akura. it's even further north, but still south of Indian head. On my last trip we stayed up there. It was great. From dusk till dawn there wasn't a soul around. It was very beautiful too :) I'm sure it will be busier at chrissy though :(
