View Full Version : LPG-Diesel vs chipping and long range tank

Hi all,

Has anyone actually tried the LPG diesel conversion? Seems brilliant if true - increased range, cleaner running and more power. It would presumably do the job both of a long range tank and a chipping upgrade.

I have both 300tdi and TD5 130 Defenders - would be very grateful for any first hand experience of the conversion to either of these engines.

Besides, it ain't easy to do a chip upgrade on a 300tdi.......

Cheers all,

Paul

Give Brad or Matt from KLR Automotive in Sydney a call on 02 4721 3675 as they actually do the conversions. They may know who does it in Vic.

nope but its an absolute doddle to wind up the pump in the tdi300 (well relatively) then you could sneak the wastegate valve a little...

Paul,
I have been running diesel gas for abot two months now and it's great. I get heaps more power and much better economy. 8.5K's/L hwy to 11K's/L hwy and I'm not easy on the pedal. I have a '98 300TDI disco auto and standard fuel tank. The gas tank (21 Litre) is mounted under the passenger sill and gets me about 600K's per fill. Another bonus is slightly lower EGT's.
The gas conversion can be carried out at 4WD Connections 5/266 Bolton St Eltham Vic. 03 9439 6122 ask for Mark and tell him Keith sent you.
I haven't towed with it yet but I expect it to be much better performance wise and a huge saving in fuel.:D
Cost is about $4,000:( but $2,000 back from Johnny:)
Overall, so far I LOVE IT.
Cheers

hi turtle
could you post some pics of the tank installation? How long did it take to get the 2K back from Johnny? I understand when the gas runs out it just reverts to straight diesel automatically -is that right?

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Turtle, that sounds very promising. 4WD Connections are on holidays till after the Cup, but I will call them next week.

Blknight, could you give me some more info please on the tweaks? I will probably go the lpg route, but would enjoy a bit of a play first....

Cheers all,
Paul

Edddo, (see PM I sent you)
The diesel injection system is not changed or altered in any way when fitting the gas system. So when you run out of gas, you just lose the extra power boost that was given by the gas. I'll see what I can do about some piccy's.
