G'day All,
If there is anyone besides me and JDNSW, where do you go? bush, beach or both? I've been a practising Naturalist for about 30 years or so.....seems like a lifetime!

Anyway, minority groups in Australia get lots of attention........sometimes not the right sort though.........

Interesting never thought of it as a hobby.
Did a corpse job at River Island nature resort a couple of years ago, the team camped out on a flat near the river. Some of the boys got into it around the swimming pool in the evenings, I couldn;t drink enough to feel comfortable.
However did have a go from the showers, walked around for a bit, it certainly was different.
good on you.

I have been to a beach where nudists hang out but i was clothed, does that count?
There was an article in LROI a while ago about a couple who go green laning naked in the UK. Matt

G'day Matt,
Most of our gazetted nudist sites are 'clothing optional', Samurai is for example. Popular with board riders, gets a nice even break.
It's popular too with families because it's National Park[no pets] and doesn't get the 'hoons' that Stockton sometimes attracts, and is safe for small kids as there is no thoroughfare like Stockton, speedsters are made most unwelcome!
Nice spot for an overnighter in good weather too 8)
Cheers Scott.

Where do I go? Mostly River Valley, near Echuca, usually once a year, mostly at Easter. (note this is NOT optional dress)
But my house was built by my late wife and myself for nude living the year round. Nearest neighbour is four kilometres away, so I don't have to GO anywhere!

Sounds like the lifestyle I can only dream about......my wife doesn't share my love of the outdoors, she's is, and always will be a 'home comforts' type. My son who's 10 loves the bush & beach too, but he has his Mum's Pommie skin and burns sooo easily! Sorry to note your wife's passing.
Where in Central West are you? Some great country out that way!

I agree JDNSW, it's not about appearances at all. Lots of different shapes, sizes, colours and ages. Different people with a common preference.
I spent this Sunday on Samurai with my ten year old son, warm in the sun but the water freezing! Brrr! 8O
He's been used to nudity all his life, and thinks it's nothing special at all, even at home. He can't understand the fuss people make when they are 'exposed' to it for the first time. I've spoken to a lot of people over the years, the ones that are only 'trying it out' or 'looking' get a little uncofortable when you walk up and say 'G'day'. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
That normally don't stay around much after introductions are made!
I love the lifestyle and live it every chance I get 8)

Scott,
I met my late wife at a nudist swim night in Melbourne - and was introduced to her by her 13y.o. son who had conned me into playing chess with him. Both my stepsons were raised as nudists and one met his wife at River Valley - they now have three nudist daughters (well, one is still in nappies at two months).
So we all have difficulty understanding people who have problems with it.

I will not go naked in front of people! Yikes !!!
However I wish I could feel what other people thought of me was of no consequence.
It is not just about being naked, it is about being judged. Will people stare at my (who know what) or will people prefer to say I am a bad housekeeper or bad worker. We are so judgemental. It is never really about what we want or what we are happy about it normally is all about "what do others think about us".
No wonder we are all stress buckets, can't please everyone, may as well please ourselves.
Still I will save the world from the stress of seeing my naked body style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

G'day Jane,
It's true........being naked is a great equalizer. there are no class distinctions!
When I peel my clothes off I feel as though I peel away troubles and stress. It's one of many reasons I do it. My wife doesn't feel the same though, it's very much a case of horses for courses!

I'm not sure if I'm a nudist or not, I live in the bush near Darwin and I don't care if I wear clothes or not, but I always wear boots in case of snakes or bities in general.

Well, actually I am not strictly a naturalist, although I suppose in nineteenth century parlance I could be described as a natural philosopher. (geophysicist)
The word you are looking for is naturist, and your mistake is why I prefer the word nudist - they have the same meaning, but the latter is less likely to be confused with a totally different word.
OK, having had my fun, to answer your question, somewhere around 25 years, although there was no instant decision, no single event I could point a finger at. Probably the first time I was nude on a public beach was in 1983.

Nothing to do with either the swinging sixties or showing off. I always use sunscreen and a hat while outdoors. Probably started as a delayed result of working in a remote area of PNG where clothing was noticeable by its absence in the locals - and in that climate they had a point!
I actually met my late wife at a nudist swim night in Melbourne, and our family (currently myself, one stepson, d-i-l, three children) have a holiday almost every year at a nudist resort. I might comment the son met his wife there when they were both children. At home I rarely wear anything indoors except when I have non-nudist visitors. Outdoors depends on the weather and what I am doing - as you comment for example, in hot weather the Series seats are a bit uncomfortable, but also things like fencing need full covering, particularly if you are using barbed wire! Most workshop jobs I find overalls and boots a good idea.

As a kid we used to go to the South of france on holiday. wow belive me you see some sites there. The french may not wash and may be smelly and general not like by us poms (for too many reasons to mention on here:) ) but one thing they are is open.
Most of the beaches there are nudist beaches (most mixed with normal beaches , well normal in france as they all have their tits out all the time anyway). And as a young teenager you see some really nice things and you see some really nasty things
Enough to put you off going to the beach for life

G'day All:)
The beach on the North Shore of Sydney was Reef Beach, opposite Manly even had it's own beach inspector, Bob Reed:) most of the regulars were off duty hospital staff and police, I was using that beach before it was made legal in 75, a very good family beach, Lady Jane was on the Southside down the ladder just a little east of Watsons Bay,used mainly by the Kings Cross and gay set, best inviroment to bring up young children in, (under 10's)they just execpted each other. Didn't have problems with perverts until moving to Qld :( also at certain "Grounds" ,also Bribie beach used to be OK in the 80's but development killed that, and it was also posted in Gay Mags. BTW the family never grew up to do Booze or Drugs.

I've been there also Bushie. No sights to talk about, but the 4WD facility there is a bit of fun.
Its sounds like you just have confronted the forum with this new Dobbo. :lol2:

Well, actually I am not strictly a naturalist, although I suppose in nineteenth century parlance I could be described as a natural philosopher. (geophysicist)
The word you are looking for is naturist, and your mistake is why I prefer the word nudist - they have the same meaning, but the latter is less likely to be confused with a totally different word.
OK, having had my fun, to answer your question, somewhere around 25 years, although there was no instant decision, no single event I could point a finger at. Probably the first time I was nude on a public beach was in 1983.

John...while we are on this, are you lot Smoothies ?( there is some fancy word for it that I can't get my mouth around, and anyway, smoothie sounds better :) )
I understand there are exclusive groups just for the smoothies.
Now! Now! What happened to this thread. :nazilock:

Not quite sure what you mean by "fingers pointed". I don't keep it a secret - if people have hangups about their body that is their problem, not mine, and if they want to point fingers at me it reflects on them not me.

I came (oops) across a couple of threads in a forum tidy up so I've merged them.
Maybe this thread has all the answers for dealing with campers who set up in your back pocket. Well, it might if your wife is not model material. Might just add to the problem if she is.
I was at River Island over Easter and there was one woman there of whom I asked "Are you a model?" She assured me she wasn't but, by gum, she could have been. It was hard to take one's eyes off her especially when one was sharing the same spa.

Yes I was when younger. When I was a kid we lived at rosco nudist club at Freemans Waterhole. I believe it's still there. I'd like to go back there & have a look see how much it's changed. We lived there for a year. Was awesome. Threw the week we had the run of the place. Big pool kids play area couldn't ask for anything better.
