for reason I wont divulge here---:angel:
it seems my boot.ini file has gone west,,
PC still runs, but am expecting a BSOD at any moment,,
have run CHKDSK twice and the second time was clean, but bootcfg /rebuild fails---
its been all of 15 months since last clean install so I guess its time,,
did have a virus though-- gone now.
I think.

I have 2 drives - C: (boot) & E: (data)
Here is my boot.ini - which was located on E: drive
[boot loader]
timeout=1
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

hmmm,
the "reason"
is, I was updating XP using AUTOPATCHER and it tells me--
MODULE PANIC
Security Update for .NET Framework2
"Parent or Prerequisitie item missing"
I gather this means .NET is missing?
(Thanks Grizzley;))

boot off the xp cd and take the third repair option to do a repair install.
if that dont work... format it.. even if you get it back, it will be unstable...
