Agreed. The Japanese show was a bit of fun. Trust the bloody yanks to get it all screwed up. As for an American Land Rover? I just traded a 79 F100 for a 79 S2a 109 PV. 500 HP down to 58 HP, and the landy can do things that Fud just would not even look at. Love my odd little S2a. regards shorty943.

79 2a? Either the year or the model is wrong - if it is 79 its a S3, or if its an S2a its not 79! Perhaps 69?

Thanks - I suspected from the context it was something like that. I'm afraid that I don't watch any cooking shows, except by accident!

I beg to differ - the American voice overs on the Japanese show are a CACK! I often find myself watching it over dinner on a Saturday night and damn nearly end up spitting my food out with laughter.

Chaiman Kaga is hilarious and why he chooses to eat a whole, raw capsicum in the opening credits is something I will never understand. Judging by the look on his face, he didn't understand it either.

I speak Japanese a bit so some of the translations are really funny. There are an awful lot of un-translatable colloquialisms in Japanese and listening to the ridiculous American English attempts is priceless. The selection of dishes is also incredible, especially to a western palate.

I want to see Jamie Oliver vs Iron Chef French Hiroyuki Sakai using something like truffles! That would be a fantastic battle.

I'm with you - the Japanese made show with the yank voiceovers had that special something. However the new American made copy currently showing doesn't have any of the atmosphere of the Jap one. I heard it has already been axed in the US.

SBS had some of the the best viewing this year for my money - Mythbusters on Monday and Iron Chef on Saturday.

I agree totally. The Iron chef was a great show (Japanese version) and the American voiceovers were very "special".:D :D

I would like to see Jamie vs Iron Chef Italian using something like eggplant. :)

How about Iron Chef French vs Gordon Ramsay!!!

Iron Chef - Japanese cuisine show- the host and the three master chefs were quite amusing, little old lady judge was a bit full of it though.
As for the mention of Jamie Oliver? Pardon me, but to me he is a foul mouthed boor.

If it has a VIN plate it is a S3 - they were not invented when the S2a went out of production. Note that I doubt it is labelled as a Series 3 or anything anywhere!
Series 3 is easily distinguished from the Series 2a - a few checks:-

Windscreen hinges : S2a hinges are part of bulkhead and windscreen frame
S3 hinges are bolted on, single hole.
Instrument panel: S2a Metal, in the middle
S3 Plastic, in front of driver
Door checks : S2a Sliding bit is on bulkhead
S3 Sliding bit is on door

There are quite a few other differences, but most of them are on bits that can easily be swapped, so are not very definitive. The key, of course is chassis number, but as I said, if it has a VIN plate, it is an S3.

Best show on TV: Iron Chef

Worst show on TV: Iron Chef America

Iron Chef (Japanese one) cracks me up. It's as much comedy as cooking show but I almost always want to try the things they make. Most look delicious !

However... did you ever see the one where they hung up that slimy fish and filled it with water so they could skin it / butcher it ? **** that was 'orrible ! Made Mekong River catfish look attractive.

Jamie Oliver V's the Iron Chefs would be a great to watch

My favorite Iron chef is the one who uses the razor sharp ninja sword/machette to cook with.

The voice overs while crap give the show a monkey magic type of atmosphere which makes it watchable crap.

Got a friend like that at work.
We call her Joey...she got dragged over the coals last year for using that F word to a colleague and upset her :(

Hang on...may this should be in the Womens Nicknames thread!! :D

That would be dismissed in my workplace, even laughed at.

If a tradie didn't swear you would think he's a poof

My last job with Telstra required me to occasionally travel to various Asian cities for meetings. Usually, I'd be the only Anglo at the meetings (of around 100 or so delegates). The problem is that I really don't like real Asian food - particularly seafood - it stinks (which is symbolic in a way - a lot of my time in Telstra was dealing with problems with commercial fishermen trawling over international submarine cables).

I don't know how many times I went hungry at meeting because they'd take us out to lunch and dinner in various Asian restaurants and I couldn't eat any of it. I was hard pressed not to spew at the very look and smell of it.

My boss took the good gigs like the UK, Europe, the USA. I always got Asia and Asia stinks.

I've told people that they are not welcome in my workplace when they swear. In fact, I won't let some in. I've told them I find it extremely offensive. I don't swear beyond bloody and bugger.

(I also tell anyone who has just had a cigarette that they can't come in as they stink - and I use that word! Hmm, I'm not popular with the smokers. Last week I was at a location where one of the workers smoked so I sat outside for the whole shift and read a book - in uniform and in view of hundreds of the public. He did the job by himself. He was ropeable!)

Vlad. Mekong Catfish? You a VET?

VladTepes
20th December 2006, 11:57 AM
This is a Mekong Giant Catfish:

http://www.4so9.com/cauca/files/ban-doc/francois/stingray/old/Vee%20Carlson's%20117%20lb%20Mekong%20Giant%20Catf ish,%20Nov.%208,%202004%20.JPG

and as fugly as it is, the fish on Iron Chef (which looked like some sort of deep ocean bottom dweller) was way way less attractive.

Oh the catfish above has been served here in many fish and chip shops under various names, one of the reasons for the recent crackdown you may have noticed at your local fisho on consistent naming of fish.
Imagine the ****e that fish has been swimming around in, then ask yourself you want to eat it !

Why would I be a Vet ? And If I was a vet that specialised in Mekong catfish would that make me a Vietnam vet ?

(sorry guys, no offence intended to anyone, just a poor joke I couldn;t resist).

VladTapes you are a champ - awesome piccie of that Mekong Catfish.

Everytime I metion to my mum i had fish, or fish and chips she WITHOUT FAIL makes a crack about it being a Mekong Catfish - never seen what they look like till now - now I am scared - big buggers. ANd thinking of the stuff they would be swimming in - NO, I would not choose to eat one:spudnikhurler: .

Looks like the people in the photo have caught them in a large puddle in someones back yard...(noticed the fence)

Ron

There is a time and place to swear. When I was working as a baker I used to be careful when the shop girls were present but some blokes are just downright grubs and say all sorts of charming expletives (use your imagination).
