Importing Landy stuff?

Been cruising some of these sites and was wondering what the go is with importing some of this gear from the UK.Was looking at a spare carrier for 75 pounds, whats that equate to landed here??

I import engineer's tools and machine shop supplies from USA. I get all of it by U.S. Postal Service. Far cheaper than commercial carriers. USPS will handle up to 100 pounds weight, far more than I could send from here by Australia Post. I use air mail for low mass high value items or urgently required items, & surface mail for weighty or stock orders. Check the British Post Office web site for their limits on mass & volume & their charges. The UK/Aus exchange rate is about $2.50 to the pound sterling. Transit time from the USA is 5-10 days air-mail and 8-13 weeks surface mail. Air mail is expensive.

do your homework on the prices here in Aust and UK. Look around to see if someone interstate does them.

I have just received parts from UK, 34kg cost ₤165.00 in shipping ($412.50) Parts were cheep ₤280.00 Import tax just under $65.00 as total value of goods were under $1000.00, if value was over $1000.00 import costs are worked out by

duty/tax+gst+customs entry fee+security fee and gst on shipping.

shipper valued the goods wrong on invoice as $1125.00:angry: :wallbash: :( . so on the workings

I would have paid $309.00 on importing + $310.00 shipping, if had paid it parts would have been around same price in Aust.

Sat down with a friend to work out price on shocks to bring in, saving was about $5.00 per shock, desided to order in Aust.


Again do your homework research what is available in Aust before importing:excl:

Will say parts were in Aust in under 4days just took a bit longer to get them, while I had the price fixed, company rang me to apologies in error on pricing from UK to my mobile

so thats a $225 wheel carrier plus postage, sounds ok to me. I got a box of goodies from the States a few years ago the size of a fridge surface mail and the postage was naff all considering, is getting stuff out of the UK any different?I regularly buy books from all over the world, whats the difference?

Stuff under $1000 imported post office to post office, no duty, no GST, comes straight through to your door. Use the post, not the commercial carriers if the volume/mass is acceptable to the office of despatch.

Postage ex UK always seems a lot more than postage ex USA :mad:

UK companies dont seem as comfortable sending stuff o/s compared with many US on line retailers, particularly for larger items.

Not only is UK postage sooooo much more expensive, but no supplier in the UK wants to post anything O/S. Everytime I've tried ordering they've wanted to courier stuff across - being "unable" to post. That left a set of parabolic springs (cost me $600AUD) at the customs terminal, where I had to spend some hours clearing them and paying tax. If they'd posted the springs (parcels each under 20kg) it would have made life so much easier & cheaper.

As already noted, stuff out of the US is easy.

Yanks have a better attitude to customer service. They are competitive and want to do business. They will do what you require. The poms are still labouring under the delusion of superiority engrained during the days of empire when they looked down on and patronised "colonials". The almost total demise of their motor industry was a direct result of not doing what the customers wanted. That said, there is a tool coy. in London whose service is excellent, but then, it is owned and run by Indians, not poms.

My suggestion when dealing with pom businesses that don't want to use post is to tell them firmly that the goods must be sent by post and the order and any subsequent orders are dependant on them doing what they are told promptly and efficiently. Also tell them that you will not pay the excessive charges to send the goods by commercial carrier.

I just bought a Indicator switch and a-frame ball joint from Paddocks, did it all online andd total cost before post was $80 AUD. Post would be air mail or whatever but shouldn't cost more than $120 at the most.

The indicator switch new here is about $170 and I'm getting 2 items and still better off :) .

55 pounds postage was high, but sent via mail (guess it is Royal) and received 5 working days later

That's going on the 87 Rangie, when the one already fitted ****'s itself. The cheaper ones goes on the 2 door because it won't be used off-road as much.
