Another beach closed to 4wds

I've just been told that Seven Mile Beach at Lennox Head has been closed, by the bloody Ballina Council... Boulders have been placed on the beach access track... mongrels....

One wonders about access for emergency service vehicles... there's sometimes been a need for them on this beach......

They are also closing down a section of beach between Nora Creina and Little Dip conservation park in SA. Not often frequented section, but there was a public access road (gated by the current owners so it is not obviously public) down to the beach. Fairly plain section compared to surrounding robe and beachport sections, however the land owners are subdividing, and selling off in 100acre lots (2 still for sale at $260K) and closing off the entire section of beach to all but the owners. Still each block has an easment to put in a walking trail or 4wd track down to the beach.

New 4WD and Horse access to Seven Mile Beach, Lennox Head

The new 4WD and horse beach accesses onto Seven Mile Beach at Lennox Head will be open to the public as of Thursday the 14th December 2006. They are north of Lake Ainsworth accessed via the road to Camp Drewe. New signs will be in place providing directional and regulatory information. The existing 4WD beach access to the east of Lake Ainsworth will be closed on Thursday to horses and 4WD’s and is to be rehabilitated.
The new beach accesses have been built further north of the town to allow for restoration of the dune system’s weak points to protect Lake Ainsworth from ocean breaches during cyclones. They will provide increased public safety around Lake Ainsworth and Seven Mile Beach and will assist in protecting the lakes water quality through restricting traffic in the lakes vicinity.
Codes of Conduct will now apply to all 4WD’s and Horse riders using Seven Mile Beach. Failure to comply with the Codes of Conduct will result in fines under Section 632(1) Local Government Act 1993.

4WD CODE OF CONDUCT
All vehicles utilising Seven Mile Beach must:
• Adhere to this Code of Conduct at all times
• Only enter and exit beach at the designated 4WD beach access
• Not drive within 10metres of any part of the vegetated dune
• Drive only on firm sand below high tide mark
• Not drive on any other dune area or dune track
• Not exceed a speed limit of: 30km/h on beach, or:
15km/h within 50m of any other beach user
• Only drive on beach north of designated 4WD access track and south of Byron Shire boundary (3.3km to north)
• Be licensed drivers (All NSW road rules apply)
• Respect the rights of other beach users

The 4WD track was funded by the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority and Ballina Council and constructed by a Tursa Work for the Dole crew and Ballina Council.
A feature of the new track is a full length recycled plastic board and chain/bearer along the length of the 4WD track over the dune. It is made of high-density polyethylene from 220,000 recycled 2-litre milk containers weighing 8,800kgs in total that has avoided going to landfill.
This track enables 4WD’s to access the beach without the risk of becoming bogged and eroding the dune. The 4WD access track provides two passing bays for 4WD's.

My source of this info, (I) having relayed this said there were no signs to indicate such, tho'...........

There's a funny clause in the code: "drive below the high tide line etc"
so what does one do when it's high tide, or an hour either way? hmmmm

If it is anything like Bribie Island then you just don't move your vehicle. The Ranger will fine you if you do. He gets around on a quad bike. However high tide at Bribie when I was there meant there was pretty much no beach to drive on anyway.
