I have the standard "short" ladder from LR, available from the Stealers as a Gen Accesory.
From memory it was in the low $200's fitted.
It works as it should, and I also use a set of Graeme Cooper Bumperettes(with Chequer plate on top) to get the first "leg up" onto the truck.
This setup works well for me, it's simple and effective.......

I went to a ships chandelry (? spelling) Paid for two mast steps, and used stainless screws to put them in. I think they were $4.50 each. Handle and step in one, and easy to install. Two steps and onto the spare tyre. Can post a pic later if you want.

Hmmmm.....if you wanna go that way, there's some very nice fold-flush when not needed ones made of cast alloy, also others in stainless.....a veritable plethora available!;)

mines a Safety Devices job, the ladder alone costs about a grand landed here so the previous owners insurance company found out:p .https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/12/74.jpg

Hi Guys,

I carry kayaks on the landy pretty regularly, so I'm on and off the roof rack quite often, often with 15 to 20 kg boats in hand.

When climbing on from the rear I just step up to the tow hitch, then across and up the hinges on the spare wheel carrier.

When climbing up the front, I've a couple of reinforced panels to protect the top of the wheel arches, or at least they will when I get around to installing them. I'm sure they'll do a great job... eventually. :-)

I'm pretty short at 5'9", and weigh around 90 to 95 kg and I've not noticed any strain on the hinges yet.

As a side note, how have other fitted the panels? Self tappers? Rivets? Std chequer plate field day specials.

cheers

Dave

rivets do ok for fitting the chequer plate to the top of the gaurds others might like screws

Yeah Stu mine is a really high quality and sturdy Aluminium ladder. Not sure how much it was but I think the manufactures are Suncoast Towbars in Qld (07) 5445 5588.

Best of luck
