Hi all,

My 97 disco 300TDI is approaching 200,000kms and I am after some advice as to anything that should be done to improve performance, reliability and longevity.

The engine is serviced regularly serviced (probably over serviced), and never any real dramas.:D

I was thinking of having the engine Dyno Tuned.

Any other suggestions or is this a bit of unnecessary over kill?

Has anyone in Melb used Turbo Engineering (Thomastown) or Les Richmond Automotive that could qualify their work quality. Or does anyone know any L/R places closer to the CBD or South Eastern that could do the work.

Cheers.

At 200,000ks, If not already done,

Replace Timing belt

Belt tensioner

Water pump

Lift pump

Vacumn pump

And maybe some of the plastic fuel lines.

Then happy travels for another 100.000 km:D
or so

Cheers Sumo;)

What's the fuel economy like?

Mine is also getting close to this mark and after fixing all the little leaks around lift pump and injectors, the fuel economy is still not as good as it should be. I have heard that after 150,000kms - 200,000kms the injectors may need replacing. Something to keep in mind...

Well i've got a couple k's to go for 300k and still got the original injectors, still get 10L p/hundred fuel economy and she still pulls like a train. Pulled a F250 stuck up to the sills out of the beach the other day no worrys(sorry did'nt have my camera). So 200k is nothing.

Coool thanks,

Done the lift pump @150Kms (p*ssed diesel everywhere for a week before I realised).

Will do water pump.

But vacuum pump is like 400+bucks alone... wait for failure... i don't know.

Hi,

Injectors are sweet (i think). Performance could be better but fuel range... I can't complain, it certainly isn't going backwards.:D

i use that fuel additive stuff every other fuel up.

Of course there are plenty of other LR mechanics around but if you are concerned with the particular, perhaps "generally" unknown issues that may be just around the 200,000k corner then he's your man. There wouldn't be much Fred doesn't know about anything Land Rover.

Just my opinion.

200,000kms......!!!!

its only just been run-in......just keep enjoying it........and remember.....
if you change any parts before they break.....(preventative maintenance)...keep the old parts for spares......

Replacing parts unless showing signs of failing is complete overkill, i suppose when yours gets to 250k you will just replace it ?

Not really, I've just listed the parts that have failed within a 150000ks on mine, so for prevenative matainance, especially if your thinking about a trip to the outbackor something:eek: thats what i would replace to keep it reliable:D .
