View Full Version : Rangie Leather Seats in a Defender?

Anyone fitted Rangie or Disco leather seats in a 110? If so, what's involved - do you need to bolt on new mounts? No doubt you lose easy access to the seat boxes.
Would no doubt improve comfort if it works...

It should be possible but IIRC the position is all wrong and the arm rest will get in the way of the cubby box.

The French have old Saab 900 seats in their defender which seem to work quite well, and due to the way that the seat folds / reclines they are still able to access under the seat the way they have them installed, just undoo a couple of bolts.

Try searching here;

for Seat swap or something like that.
I've read a few articles there about the best seats to use and from memory the Disco II seats are the best fit as they have a slim base.

FWIW, I measured the seat rail spacing on the County and the RR classic and found they were the same.

Hoy i'm actually quite happy with how comfy the fender seats are (compared to the series 3)... but figured some captains chairs with arm rests etc out of a rangy would be the bees knees

I want the Recaro's the father-in-law has sitting in his shed. He used to have them in 100 series cruiser but when he changed from ACT to NSW rego they wanted an engineers certificate for them so he took them out and sold the cruiser.
The stock seats are very comfy though.

I bought a stratos suspension seat for my dual cab defender which I thought was going to be the ducks guts but when I pulled the original drivers seat out and lined it all up it was going to take up too much leg room for the rear passenger :(
Not happy Jan!
Now I gotta sell it again and find a couple of matching somethings so I am very interested in this thread.
So do the rangie seats fit or what? Are there differences in the disco seats and which ones would people recommend looking for?
ps anyone want to buy a nice grey stratos suspension seat?

trek overland, www.trekoverland.com (http://www.trekoverland.com) have a 130 project vehicle that has classic rangie seats in it. although not featured on their web pages, it was in one of the landrover comics in the u.k (no decent pics or info). perhaps if you dorpped them a line they could assist.

I saw a photo once of a Land Rover (V8 SIII) done up by Land Rover Special Vehicles for some unnamed African dictator that had Classic Range Rover seats. I'm guessing it went to Libya, as it was part of a fleet of Land Rovers.

My County project vehicle was set up for Rangie seats. The seat box was lowered a couple of inches and heavier aluminium plate put across the top.

slightly off what your considering, but hopefully worth a look.
i've put a set of honda seats in mine - available in abundance from a jap wrecker. the one i went to had 15+ sets to choose from. initially i thought about a civic because of they're size but eventually went for these which i think are from an accord and are both very comfy and give excellent support

Honda seats do look the goods....
My racing seat i had (Aerotech) was great... but in a Ute, Any seat is a problem.. A wagon.. diff case...
I'm going to put Disco seats in the County as i have a pair laying around....
County seats are in perfect condition, might use them in the new project..... What ever that might be....:whistling:

That looks a neat job. Is there still room for the cubby box (Which I can't see in the pic) or are the seats wider than the Defender/County ones?
Is that marine carpet, BTW, and did you trim it yourself round the transmission tunnel?

Carpet in a County, Defender or series defeats the purpose......
They all leak water and then they smell.... but if you live in dry parts of Australia and never go off road then i guess its fine.....:D:D:D

all cars leak water to a certain extent and i've done quite a lot in ensuring that water ingress will be kept to a minimun - as in on comparison with my disco - which has seen plenty of water and doesn't smell.
it will spend the majority of it's time offroad but in spending a bit of time and a certain amount of care/consideration instead of just botch jobs ;) then it can be made "more water proof"

yes jeff, there is still room for the cubby box, but i'll be leaving it out and probably building something my self to fit and better suit my needs.
sorry for the thread hi-jack

Not exactly. Not all cars leak.... Ive had many a Euro car that never leaked.
But forgetting that.. i see your point and if your happy with carpet, then do so... i just like to be able to hose the 110 out when ive finished a trip...
