Hey guys,

looking for some help with buying a tdi Disco 1, what are some things that I should be looking for? Or otherwise has someone got any articles from Land rover monthly or any similar magazines that may have some info.
Cheers

Dassa

Apart from the normal rust inspection (specifically the alpine windows in D1's ) check the service history and when the timing belt was changed, if its done more than say 160k it should be on its 3rd belt by now if not factor that in for peace of mind.
Depending on what you like test drive an auto as they are brilliant to drive .

pm a bloke by the nick of turtle from here, hes got a disco for grabs and (apart from the auto but thats my preference) its a very nice rig.

Given the work hes had done to it and the nick its in Its worth the dollars hes asking for it.

I think a 98 tdi auto would be the best buy

Look for water leaks from the water pump housing and the front-passenger-side of the block. The 300Tdi can easily warp heads and manifolds if it's been cooked, and they can have cracked heads without any real outward symptoms (these can let you down in the middle of nowhere). Having said that I drove 8000km through NT and western Qld with mine cracked and I just made sure I filled the water every morning.

Apart from that both of mine have been brilliant cars.

So if the head has been replaced recently, what should I be looking for?

what causes the head to crack etc and then be replaced. the disco in question has 240,000 on the clock.

cheers
