Ok i new to this range rover 4wd stuff, Little help would be great guys.
I have a 1980 2 door range rover 4.4 v8 and i think it has a lt95 gearbox, When i let the clutch out theres a small bang like a Stuffed uni joint, Got under and checked rear tailshaft all good checked front uni's are fine but i can turn tailshaft a little in diff and box, So i have put it down to that, My Question is should the front have any play at all??? Or should be tight like rear???
Am i up for front diff and box??????
Thanks Tim.

The LT95 4 speeds like yours are known for there backlash andthis is commom. Some play is alright but if it's got copious amounts then your going to be up for some overhaul work on the center diff.
Hope this helps. Good luck with it.

Its leaking a bit of oil too, so i might be up for a rebuild, Any ideas of ruff cost??
I would say it would have about 1/8 play.

Leaks are normal.

Well It seems as it was not the diff it is the transfere case, looks like its got gear oil not motor oil in it and the brass shimms are F^%ked.
Been quoted $500 - $1000 to repair .
Is this a Fair Price???

depends on how much needs rebuilding and how much is shimming.... $500-750 inc parts and labour would not be unrealistc.
