I have an old early 80s Kawasaki KL 250 bike that I am fixing up. The tank is rusted and I cannot find another one. After I have finished welding up the rust holes I will need to remove the rust that is inside. I appreciate there are products such as POR 50 to go inside the tank after I clean it up but any suggestions on how to get the rust out first.

Thanks

Garry

On the old site

http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=23927

I coudn't get it to come up.

Bucket full of washing soda/ stuff to conduct the current through water.

Bit of scrap steel in the bucket.

Tank in the bucket.

12v DC power supply.

+ to tank
- to scrap steel.

Or the other way round.

Sorry, of course I can't remember which way it goes.

The bit of scrap steel rusts away like billy-oh and your rusty bit of good stuff comes out gleaming.

Only do this with metal that rusts. If you put stainless into your bucket you make some kind of horribly poisonous heavy metal stuff.

Cheers,
Simon.

Same lines but use a length of chain.

Thanks guys - some great suggestions - and yes if all else fails a home made fibreglass tank might be the go.

10% molasses, 90% water. Soak for several days then hose out.

See the article on my website: http://members.optusnet.com.au/thebecketts/rover/rust.htm

Here's the long range tank from my old HiLine - half done. Can you pick the section I've done?
