Cleaning the inside of Tanks

I have an old early 80s Kawasaki KL 250 bike that I am fixing up. The tank is rusted and I cannot find another one. After I have finished welding up the rust holes I will need to remove the rust that is inside. I appreciate there are products such as POR 50 to go inside the tank after I clean it up but any suggestions on how to get the rust out first.

I coudn't get it to come up.

Bucket full of washing soda/ stuff to conduct the current through water.

Bit of scrap steel in the bucket.

Tank in the bucket.

12v DC power supply.

+ to tank
- to scrap steel.

Or the other way round.

Sorry, of course I can't remember which way it goes.

The bit of scrap steel rusts away like billy-oh and your rusty bit of good stuff comes out gleaming.

Only do this with metal that rusts. If you put stainless into your bucket you make some kind of horribly poisonous heavy metal stuff.

evey thought of making a mold and making a "new" glass one in the same shape as the old one?

a hand full of marbles, some sodi bicarb some metho, seal er up and roll it lots (dead slow on a lathe works well, change its orientation every hour or so) once thats done clean it out, cup full of corse clean sand and repeat, empt clean and rinse.

Same lines but use a length of chain.

Thanks guys - some great suggestions - and yes if all else fails a home made fibreglass tank might be the go.

Thanks Ron - had a look the website - great stuff - is blackstrap molasses the same as ordinary molasses?
