hey there - i mentioned in another post that I am thinking for butcheting my lap top that has a buggered screen and making a vehicle mounted unit with a touch screen, firstly has anyone done this ?

that is take the guts out of a lappy and make em into a box, etc

also with the machine in general the screen sometimes works then doesnt, there lappy has been left on at sometime me thinks and put away, so if you shine a bright light onto the screen you can just see it, if you output to a monitor it works on the monitor 100%

any ideas as to what is buggered ? oh and its an acer travelmate 280

As a first comment I guess it's the screen backlight, dunno how hard/expensive it is to fix though.

Hi Mick,

Sounds like the screen backlight or invertor. That said I have seen the internal plugs com loose on Travelmate 280's before (I've fixed a few we have kicking around work.)

Have you tried opening it up and making sure all the plugs and screws are in tight... you might get a pleasant surprise.

If you are unsure how to get it apart PM me... I'm pretty sure I have a link to tech manual for them.

It's pretty easy... the panel between the keyboard and screen comes off first... then lever the keyboard out and you will see all the plugs etc you need..

Cheers, Mark
