As most of you know i'm new to Range Rovers,
I need to replace the Rocket Cover, Sump and intake Gaskets, When i rang REPCO They could not find any listings, My question is are they the same as a 3.5 rover motor?????? I heard some say this once and am not sure.
Thanks Tim.

Yep, pretty sure all are the same. The only major difference i can think of at the moment regarding seals is the valley cover because of the wider V of the 4.4.

Yep all preaty much the same except for the valley gaskets the best way to seal it up is with no gaskets and use dana grip black silicone gasket maker from supercrap about 10 bucks for a tube that goes in a silicone gun enough to do all ya gaskets ...
If useing this method alow the stuff to dry a bit before assembly cause if you put it together wet it will be a rite bitch to disasemble in the future i used this stuff on my 4.4 and it works a treat and heaps cheaper than a gasket set ..
Cheers

Kool Thanks heaps Guys,
Went to this place called hillman motors in rockhampton they have been around for a long time, They getting me a full gasket set for the 4.4 for $85 bucks???
Go figure.
It took them about an half hour to figure it out.:D
But very happy, i thought my motor was out of a P76, but its out of a terrier??
does anyone know the history of converisions in aust as my seems to be factory or very close to.

G'day Rocky 4.4 :)
The Leyland P76 and the Leyland Terrier 3-5 ton truck motors are the same they all use the basic Rover 3.5 Aluminium Block ;)
Here is the details of the P76 club "Australian P76 Owners Club" Qld Branch, the man that I know is Mr Graham Rogerson on (07)3888-1345 if he is not the Club Spare PartsCo-Ordinator he will know how to contact.
Hope that is of some help:D

Smear vaseline, or oil on the gasket face of the cylinder head and you will disassemble with ease.

That's a big call.
Just looked up the specs for a P76 4.4:
192hp @ 4250
285lb/ft @ 2500
That equates to:
143kw
386Nm
They are close to my XE 351 figures:o

The 4.4 got a small miss down low, Thinking might be intake leak?, But once you stick the boot in she flys heaps of power compared to a mates 3.9 disco.:o

If you have a vacuum leak, you should be able to hear it.
Spray some accelerant (I think WD40 will do) around the manifold. The revs should increase when the spray gets in.
I'm guessing it's an ignition problem though.

The terrier motor actually has thicker casting webs to add strength to the block and i believe thicker casting around the liners.

and low compression pistons, big dish in the top. but surprisingly i had both the p76 and the terrior versions and the terrior revved much better. it may have been thrashed more of it's life pushing a truck along.

G'day Rocky4.4 :)
It looks quite tidy for a Rangie Engine Bay:) First up I would get some of those V8 plastic ignition lead(SparkPlugLeads) seperators, then run your leads through them that will possibly stop some of the cross-firing ;) as carbon leads are renouned for shorting-out, Just open your bonnet at night in a reasonably dark spot, and watch the pretty blue flashes:D

Hardly a big call considering i've owned literally 20 rangies, most for wrecking, but all driven for atleast a few day's, a few having 4.4's, oh and chevs, windsors, diesels blah blah:eek:
