Hi All
Done some searching of the archives but still interested to know what tacho's (make, model, max rpm etc) people have retrofitted to their 300 TDIs and what did they cost.
I'm looking at a TFX tacho intended for a marine diesel and it still takes the signal from the alt so I can't see why it would not work.
Thanks

I don't have a tacho, so I can't help with experience.
I have noticed that some marine tachos don't have a very large range. ie the max rpm can be 3500 or so. Worth checking if you haven't already.

VDO Tacho 0-6000rpm p/n 333 035 017.
Think it coast about $130 and $15 for the optional housing, or you can replace your clock. The VDO is the genuine gauge. Connects to the alternator.
I just happen to have one sitting in front of me that I have yet to install. It's on the list of things to do to the Defender.

Never done it but planning to as well - are there any special hints for when hooking up to the alt or is it perhaps explained 'in the box'?
Cheers

Let you know when I install it. I'm thinking it now won't be until I get the Dash pod. The instructions are pretty simple: Connect to W terminal of alternator.

This is similar to what I am planning to do too which is why I too am keen to finalise the whole console/pod affair ...
