Hi all

I installed my maxi drive steering damper relocation kit and defender steering damper into my Rangie on the weekend.

I am just not sure how far along the steering damper should be attached to the the steering rod. I have Maxi heavy duty steering rods and at the moment I have the damper end as close as possible to the drag link. I am yet to drive the car as I am still replacing a power steering hose.

Cheers

Andrew

There is no set rule that i am aware of, when i fitted mine to the disco i just fiddled with right and left lock until it was right, just get it where you think is about right tighten a couple of the bolts so it doesnt move and then turn right and left lock to make sure you dont run out of movement before the wheel are pointing the furthest right and left. may i ask how much your relocation kit cost out of interest, and are you running a normal damper or a return to centre damper again out of interest

I am just not sure how far along the steering damper should be attached to the the steering rod. I measured the distance between the original mounts when the steering was straight ahead & fitted the new mount on the drag link so it was the same distance.

The kit from Maxi drive was $114 delivered. The Bilstein Defender steering damper was $200 delivered from British Off Road.

Then there is the blood, sweat and swearing getting the balljoint apart on the end of the front steering rod so you can slide the bracket on!
