Guys,
I know this has been done to death here and on other forums, but all I want to know is --
Does someone on this forum actually have one of these units?
I have read about 4 hours worth of forum replies- her and other clubs- and it seems everyone knows someone etc, and opinions run high.
I want to get rid of the PTO (yes I've lost my marbles) and get one of these units, and have only been able to locate one owners feedback and its positive.
This dealer has been selling these for a while now and has 99.7% positive feedback, so they can't be cr#p.
Any owners comments?
Thanks,
David

I had one on my last 4bee. was a good unit, used a couple of dozen times. only thing sus was the main leads that connect to the battery were less than first class, i replaced them with another set from an old warn winch.

I have a 9500lb one with dual batterys it goes really well.
Warrenty is supposidly 12 months. They are basically the same as the Iron man winch and unit Repco sell.
I figure long term if I need any spares i.e solonoids etc should be able to purchase off them.
Cheers

I paid $400 plus freight.
On a single line with 2 batterys on the disco it is fine.
I rairly single line only when tensioning the rope when winching I always use my snatch block and extension cable if a long pull.

I have had 4 winches so far, Warn XD9000, 2 9500 chinese and now a 12000LB chinese. After the first year with the warn the problems started, brake slipped, brushes stuck and you had to tap it with a hammer to make it go. so i stripped it down and found the motor 1/2 full of mud, the brush holders were badly corroded as were the gears in the gearbox. after a good clean and lube i got it working again and drilled a drain hole in the bottom of the end cap to let the water out. one thing you must do is coat all the gears in grease to stop the corrosion from the water getting in, Warn dont in the factory. even when i sold the truck the winch brake still didn't work right.
so then came the chinese winches, when you get them strip and grease them (found that out with the warn). with the usual weekend work of pulling out the truck or more likley pulling out trees they have never failed me or had the brake slip, some times with very high loads. I did notice though that the 12000LB one I got last was much better made in the gear box gears etc than the 9500LB ones. A friend of mine has a 9000LB Ramsay which has decided to chew up the in-drum brake, $167+GST for a new mechanism, so no winch is perfect or 100% reliable with out maintenance. I strip and relube my winches every 12 months and exercise them if they havent been used for a month or two, haven't needed to use the hammer since...................:D

Haven't tried them but I would if I had the dosh spare. I would happily mount one on the rear.

Remember you get what you pay for, it may last years it may last days, it's the ebay gamble. Would you really want to be in a situation where your life or car depended on the winch and you chose a no frills one to save a couple of hundred bucks?

over here big name brand winches are $2-3000, so for me its a cheap winch or no winch. I'll go for the cheap winch. :D

So who is going to buy one of these num-jum brands before me, it's worth one of you testing it for the rest of us. As already noted, just remember to strip it and greese it up good, quick one of you bid here :D

Mate go for it. I have seen plenty of Warns drop their guts as well as the Chinese brands. As long as your not competing, or doing the Outback challange, no probs. Good advise on the greasing side though, stick to some good maintenance and for an occasional club trip winch, it will serve well.

Thanks for the replies,
These exact guys were at the Landrover Field Day today with the winches for $710.00, with 12 mth warranty
They have a metal fabrication business and are keen 4wders. They were happy to discuss the unit, so it looks as tho I will get one soon. They appear to sell 4 a week thru ebay, hopefully I can pick one up a bit better than $710.00.
There were 3 other chinese 9500lb for $710.00 ( did they all collude??) under different names, but this one is 12,000lb:)
No wonder Warn etc are worried

question yourself how often you been out 4wding when u required a winch
if answer is less than 5 times in 3 years then buy yourself a tirfor or like manual winch
if answer more than 5 times than question yourself is an electric winch only likely to encourage you getting into these situations on the basis lve got winch l can pull myself out of the situation
cheapest option is go 4wding with another 4wd with snatchum straps

I have a 9000lb chinese copy of a mile marker that is sold a a brawn and many other lesser brands.
It's noisy when not loaded up but pulls like a school boy, enoough pull to bend both the winch cradle and the bull bar (alloy bar so I mounted it in a cradle behind the bar).
It cost me $690 on ebay about 2 years ago and has been used more to pull down trees and other people out of where I didn't want to drive down to get them.
I have pulled my self out once with it and it did it very easy, took longer to set up than to get out.
Some of the best money I have spent since I bought the Landy but the snatchy gets more of a work out.
I winch allows a much slower recovery which is espesially good when bogged to the belly in mud and you get that suction thing happening.

Going PTO, cause I can!, but I have a hardly used M12000 (4 fair dinkum pulls) for sale at AU$1500. It comes with a spare motor(AU$600) which I bought as a spare with the winch, and electrical wiring for a County/Defender. Winch cable not included.

Answer,
I have had a tirfor since 1976 and have used it in anger more than I would like to say, same goes for the PTO winch. I even used the PTO a few times to lower myself down some hills that got too dangerous to go further, certainly no mates would have gone first, but I am 54 years old now and I really dread using a tirfor again. Have you ever used one to get up a steep hill or out of a bad bog? ,Last time I used it, it wore out 4 of us to go 20m using a block- your post seems to be based on theory.
Just curious:angel:
