Can anyone tell me if they have ever had a power steering pump tick intermittently. Sometimes on full lock sometimes in straight ahead pos.
I fitted a supposedly good one from a 92 disco on sat and it was clicking but went away, now my son says its louder and worse. His prev pump had a worn shaft and u could see the pullies move under load, so I replaced it with a working one from a wreck and that growled its head off and had gotton worse andl leaked fluid everywhere when he stopped, and now this one clicking.
I thought it might be some sort of check ball/valve in the high pressure side but as it went away by the time he had left I thought it may have just been some air.
I did bleed the box and there was some air in it.
he now tells me (sunday) that the clicking has returned with a vengence and it is dependent on the motor revs.
I am witing for him to come over so I can see/ hear if it is the same clicking or something poss hitting the pullies.
I cant see anything to stuff up by removing the bracket from one and putting it on the other.
the only sucsess I have had was the growlng and leak have gone but am now faced with another bloody noise.
Any clues as these pumps are like rocking horse.... to find
Thanks

Unfortunately it seems that the clicking noise was the sound of the rear pulley slowly being ripped apart from the front one on the pump... :( .

well at least it answers the question of what the Bl**dy noise was, and at least it decided to break off 10 mins from home...

Two logons, I see!

I hope the repair is easy and cheap.

Yup! On max crank on all of the previous Falcons and both Discos - I've heard this as the cars have left the pad...driven by those who think that max lock is only better if its pushed more...
