An interesting thread has poped up on exploroz about people blocking the EGR on 3.0 ITD and getting high EGT.
I know this pops up every now and then so thought I'd post the link

Interesting. I was looking at some of the old posts on here about that subject today. Why? Well....
I put one of the blanking plates in mine a while ago (in the pipe leading from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve). At the time it was running a bit ordinary but I didn't notice any improvement. Shortly after I had all the dramas with the head (actually this was between the replacement head gasket and the replacement head). Not related but I think it was the head problems causing the poor running.
Anyhow, since I had the head replaced I have been disappointed in the performance, lots of turbo lag, sometimes feeling like it was being strangled in the mid-rev range etc.
Yesterday I pulled the blanking plate out in a further attempt to find out what is causing the squeaking noise, which I still haven't found but that's another story.
The vehicle is transformed. Running much more smoothly and pulls strongly right through the rev range like it is breathing properly.
Makes you think.......
From now on I'm not doing any tinkering, I'll just let it work as it was designed. :angel:

interestingly mine was the opposite..
With EGR fitted mine ran like a dog.
Discarded and now she's great!
Going to pull the EGR off the Disco soon so will see what happens there.

Did you also fiddle with the valve itself? I wonder if just blanking the pipe without disabling the valve causes problems?

When I unplugged the EGR it became a little more responsive in the low rev and light throttle range.

No.. I removed the entire valve assembly..
Fitted a unit I have to it...

<snip>
I notice that the EGT was measured after the turbo - lower EGT when the turbo is boosting more and higher EGT when the turbo is boosting less - when the gases are effectively bypassing the turbo and going straight to the EGT sensor without dissipating any heat into the turbo and the manifold. Measuring the temps before the turbo might just change the result.
