Can anyone tell me what the boost should be for a td5.

Mine exploded nearly 2 weeks ago.My daughter was driving at the time.

When I picked the Disco up from Rick's today I asked and was told 17.

This,to me seems rather high.

The 'official' line is 1.4-1.5 bar

Mines running 2 bar at max boost...

So what went boom?

TDi 300 runs up to 16 PSI then the wastegate vents. :D

Plenty of US truck diesels run 30-40psi from the factory.

Look at the tacho when the turbo kicks in 2000rpm is from memory about 8psi. The TD5 turbo kicks in at around 1500rpm so approx 15 - 18psi sounds about right.

Mine would settle to approx 19psi until Tombraider's better flowing I/C was installed. It now only gets to 17psi, presumably due to the max pressure allowed at the MAP sensor (on the inlet manifold) is reached with lower boost from the turbo.

Tombraider, how did you get the ecu to allow higher boost? Was it by changing an ecu parameter or by installing a resistor in the MAP sensor circuit? I'm not wanting to change mine, just curious.

Thanks for all the info.

I dont know why it went bang.As I said ,my daughter was driving it at the time.

It has 160k on the clock.

I just come back from a weekend away with the club.

I was the trip leader.

I will have to take it back to Rick's as the centre diff lock would not engage.

There was 2 tojos 1 triton 6 patrols 1 jackaroo and me leading in the Disco.

Thankfully I have Maxidrive in the rear or else I would have been in trouble as the property we were on is quite hilly with a couple of nice creek runs.
