I would appreciate it if someone can give me some advice.
I built a new pc over the last week and installed Vista. I have since discovered some of the important programs I use will not run under Vista so have decided to instal xp.
The problem I have is that when it gets to accepting the end user agreement at the start of the instal it says press F8. Unfortunately pressing F8 does nothing. It seems that the other keys on the keyboard work ok such as escape, page up, down etc.
I need to get this running asap as I need to give my laptop back at the end of the lease that runs out soon.

thanks,
Ian

Have you tried scrolling to the end of the EULA? Some versions of windows wanted to make sure you had read all the text before allowing you to continue.

Been awile since I've installed XP and I thought they stopped this habit. I seem to remember that NT 4.0 did it.

Plug the keyboard into the laptop to check F8 is working.

Thanks for the replies, I needed to scroll to the end of the agreement before it would proceed. Seems to be sorted now.

With Vista, you seem to need to run a number of older aps under different versions of Windows compatability. If you right click the app and look at properties you will find it. There's a number of settings to try.

Friend had this problem with some old stuff that run on Win95/98 and this sorted it.
