I reckon the new Defender will have all the sales and after market support in Australia of the present one - i.e. SFA. Still remember ring a LR dealer in Melbourne and saying to the salesman "I want a Land Rover, I live in a remote area and I need an off-road vehicle". You could almost hear him faint, I'm convinced he was talking to the other salesman and saying "Hey I've got some idiot who wants to use a Land Rover off-road, can you believe that"

As for the new Cruiser, this is going to be interesting, 'cause the old ones are kind of electrically stupid (especially a troopy) and the new ones won't be. I believe the troopy will be like the Defender Td5 130 with an ECM and not much else. Be interesting to see how they survive in remote areas.

Reminds me of when in 1997 I had a bit over 6 mths old Disco1 300Tdi hit a really bad pothole out on an unsealed but OK-ish bush road in QLD and really broke about 1/3 off the rim on a pricy alloy:mad:  [optional LR Genuine] and Jaguar Rover Australia [as the importers/agents at the time] didn't want to pay-up /replace it under Warranty because in their words I "had subjected the wheel and car to unreasonable use,... abused the vehicle .....etc, by driving it on an unsealed road"     ......to get them to replace it (and tyre) I had to commence a private prosecution in the Federal courts under the Trade Practices Act (1972 and Amend.s)

My lawyers all kept on laughing about it......all expecting a big laugh in court......JRA eventually settling in my favour before it got to court.......I think they were mainly worried about being laughed at!!

Yep - the 2007 Defender is coming to Australia - both 110 and 130 models- I've paid a deposit for a 110 and have been told late June delivery. It is being "launched" at the Melbourne Motor Show early in March.

The pricing hasn't been released yet - I have been told I'll find out once the model is launched - but the best guestimate is about 1-2% increase from 2006 pricing.

Some dealers are saying 110 only others are saying 110 130. My local told me the 110 will be standard but if you want a 130 or 90 and are willing to wait 3-6 months then they can get it in.

Here's the reply I received direct from Land Rover a couple of weeks ago;

Thank you for your email.

We are pleased to hear of your interest in the Land Rover Defender.

We are happy to advise that the Land Rover Defender release date is expected to be in 2008, unfortunately we do not have a confirmed date at this stage and we strongly recommend that you monitor our website for the most up-to date Land Rover information.

You can locate our website by following the link to www.landrover.com.au (http://www.landrover.com.au/).

We hope this information is of assistance and should you have further enquiries, please don't hesitate to contact myself of 1800 625 642, Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 6:00pm (EST) .
Kind Regards
Land Rover Australia

I've heard from several reputable sources the stock range will be 110 and 130 cab-chassis models, however any model Defender is available to special order (as it is now).

That is strange - after reading your message - I rang my dealer in Brisbane - he said they (Austral Land Rover salespersons) were in Sydney at LandRover "Headquarters" last week and there they discussed the new Defender arrival timing with a chap from Solihull who assured Austral Land Rover that everything is on track for 3rd quarter delivery. Production started in February and they are churning them out on schedule - Austral have again assured me it will be here late June/July and that there is no way it will take until 2008. But even if it does - I can wait.

It is funny all the different answers to the same question from LR - Perhaps it's because I ordered it in November 2006 - I don't know.

FWIW, The Austral representative at the Brisbane Motor Show said September/October 2007 at earliest.

According to their website they are still advertising the current TD5 Defender, with no mention of the new 07 model at all.

LR are a strange mob, i would of thought they would at least have a reference to it in some small way, after all it is febuary 07 already, with the model change being june/july going on previous models:eek:

The new model has been on the Land Rover .uk and .fr websites for months now as "Coming Soon". No pricing or specification details though.

Manufacturing commencement was announced with a fanfare a couple of weeks ago but it has not been launched in the UK yet.

The .au website has not reached the coming soon stage yet which makes me suspect that the arrival down under is nowhere near as imminent as the Brisbane dealer is suggesting.

I wouldn't place too much creedence in the LR Aus webpage, it's almost never updated.

I'd agree with you. But the same could be said of the UK site.

thats probably because they want to sell a back log of td5's before it gets realeased coz my guess is as soon as it is released people will just stop buying the td5

Well the Brissy dealer did say that they need the '07 model ASAP as there are no more TD5's available - you just can't get one anymore.

Scallops the dealer is going to tell you that to keep you hanging in there till 2008. As said before all efforts at the moment are the TDV8 in the RR and RRS.

This week Melbourne City Land Rover told me that only new model 110 and 130 Defenders would be available in Australia.
They were definite that the decision had been made not to sell the 90.
Has anyone heard the same?

Thanks
James
