View Full Version : L322 Rangie Warranty Work

I've just got my first service done on my 'new' 03 RR by Soverign Motors down in Adelaide. Fluids and filters only. They went over the car for me and came up with:
- Door lock not working on remote (knew about that)
- Computer display missing a 'line' (knew about that)
- Sunroof not closing properly
- Oil leak on the turbo (They reckon that the turbo needs replacing)
So - I rang Land Rover to book it in for some warranty work and they didn't batt an eyelid! Just bring it in and all will be attended to. Can't tell you how glad I am that the original owner took out the 5 year warranty option.
I asked the service manager in general about the front diff issues on the L322 model and he basically flat out denied anyone ever had a problem with diffs on these models. Is this a case of the internet creating anxiety when really there is none?

Hi Spudboy, I did my first front diff at 40,000 kms and the second front diff at 151,000 kms and even though the RR was out of warranty, because it is a known problem, LR replaced it at there expense.
Cheers

Yeah - I told him I knew of a few people with replaced diffs (you and a bloke I know in Adelaide with an 03) and he passed it off as some sort of rare coincidence.

We have replaced lcd displays in our "other" one for that reason.

reminds me of stories involving Rolls Royce in the 1930's, when a Roller had broken down on the side of the road and the factory mechanics were called out to repair it they used to erect a screen around the Roller so it couldn't be seen immobile and being worked upon. Maintained the myth of the Roller being perfection in motoring

Now they cart them away in fully enclosed unmarked pantecs.

Front diffs? Not a problem. :D
See here: http://www.rangerovers.net/rrmkiiiremedies.html#diff
June 2004: Tim of Scotland reports that his dealer has now had to fix 14 front Diffs
It reminds me of the problems with Lada Nivas. The transfer case was bolted to the floor and would shift out of alignment - much like the L322 diffs. I believe.

So what's the point of the service manager playing it down? I obviously had 1st hand experience as well as the reading on the web (same site you linkd to Ron).
Just makes me think they are devious.

just take it out and play with it:D

if something happens
THEN worry about it
as Scouse has said,, the new ones dont have this problem/been changed,, maybe one of those may fit??

Hi again Spu, wouldn’t worry to much, if you do do a front diff outside warranty, there is a much cheaper and problem fixer available from a company in California.
Also, if your not happy with the service you are getting, look else where. It’s your vehicle and your money, if you don’t trust them?

I get all my regular servicing done at an independent LR workshop. Am only using the Dealer for the Warranty work.
I saw that special prop shaft from the USA. Universal Joint at each end from memory. Who knows why LR couldn't come up with something that simple years ago to fix the problem themselves.
