Hi there, might sound like strange plane, guess a bit like asking someone if he is interested in swapping his wife;)
What i got to offer, I’ve got a small business in all thing Land Rover based in switzerland (old world, part of europe ) www.stolz-rostfrei.ch
You get the use of one of my defenders or discoverys what ever is available at the moment, fully prepared to go travelling, as far as the top of Africa if you like.
In return we get to use your TDi (Brisbane based be ideal ), we’re planning a trip from the east coast across to central australia ( used to life out there ) further on to the top end and across to maybe the cape york, back down to Brisbane along the coast. Got about 7 weeks to spend.
If this sounds ridicules, just let me know, but please contact me if you got a TDI for sale around the middle of april, ideally ready to go ( as ready as landrovers can be )
thanks Richard

I think that's a great idea too.
Am just emailing my missus to see what she thinks of the idea. We prob couldn't do 7 weeks in Europe because of kids/work, but I'd still be happy to let you have my car for 7 weeks.
Would you be interested in using a 97 TDi 300 Disco. Front and Rear ARB lockers. Snorkel. Old Man Emu suspension. It's got a shelving system that fits in the back (http://motorcare.com.au/chkwgn.htm).
BTW - We are in Adelaide, but still it's only a few days drive up to Brisbane.
Anyway, let me know if you are at all interested and I'll work on the girl.
Regards
David

hmmm interesting concept - though i would check the insurance implications - as even though this is a "swap" i think you will find that in the eyes of the law it is a lease agreement and as such different insurance provisions apply. god forbid something may happen to your car - or its swiss passemgers i would hate to see you be in the deep doo doo .

My folks did this a year or two ago with a couple from Denmark (I think). I don't recall them saying anything about different insurance required. Surely you could just make sure they were on your insurance policy as registered drivers.

We did this a few years ago - but it was only for 3 weeks. We got their ski chalet, and their Subhuru in Wildhause, S.Land - and they got Kyabram and my Disco 1. Worked very well.
Like said the names were just added as authorised drivers to the insurance - no issues.

Do you take the wife, kids and pets in the deal?
:D You might have to give me a little rundown on how to handle them all, but if you come to the swiss mountains and run my little business while I’m away and take care of my customers ( a weird and wonderful bunch ) we might have a deal.
Send me some more details on your missus and the rest of the crew.

You know it is bloody tempting, get to play with landies all day. No towing horses, ever no looking after the kids, ever. Getting to meet wierd and wonderful people who do not speak that much English.
I have thought of this for the last 1/2 hour and would have to say no.
I'd miss the dog and the D2

Hi John, maybe Andrew sold his prototype 6x6, great truck it was, galvanized chassis and all, Anrew is one of a kind, last time i drove past his place ( 5years ago ) he had a FWC SIIB sitting in the front yard.
Is Sutton Mottors still in the business.
About time i get back to central australia, miss the place heaps.

I'd love to drop in, BigJon, you're only a few thousand k's due west of me.
I just wish I could work out how to... I really should get my pilots licence current, then I could go wherever, wings on the Landy!
A question for all you Simpson Desert traversers, ever see anyone doing the crossing on a motorbike?

A pretty regular occurence AFAIK. Last year a group did it on posty bikes, but they has support teams with them. They also had a few broken wrists and collar bones. Not much suspension travel on the posty special!

i bumped into two guys on my trip, well we were kicking back having a beer, it was dark and they wanted to get the birsville that night, we were at the french/knolls track junction, thats approx 200km
i spoke to the lead rider, he was buggered, i offered a feed and some water but he said they would try and make it, they must have been trying to do it in one day, crazy
