Where is the best source for connecting the aux. indicators to on my bullbar ?

Indicator wiring going to the original indicators in the body work. Use low wattage or LED bulbs, otherwise you trailer warning lamp will come on every time you use your indicators.

The main indicators or the little side lights in the guards ?

Main ones near headlights. Don't have to run the wires so far then :D . As far as load on the electrical system, I don't think it would make any difference whatsoever.

Don't often agree with you BigJohn - but these are a pain in the a^*e

I would always recommend that you strip back, solder the connections, then use shrink insulation over the joint.

I wasn't aware that we have had differing opinions in the past  .
Nothing serious I hope:angel: .

You get used to the trailer signal flashing. Lets me know the lights are working.

If you can't get LED's just swap for 5W bulbs and the trailer light won't blink.

Also I agree don't use the clamps, solder the connection and heat shrink.

Only problem with your "more is better" sorta logic is that when you do eventually, for some crazy whim might actually hook up a trailer you won't know if the bloody blinkers on it are working properly or not!:o

Might be best to go with the other gents' advice and use low watt bulbs or LED's for a "non-interference" load from the bull bar's lighting!;)

BTW - if you want to use Narva's version of 3M's Scotchloks and the like - at least totally seal them in Starbrite "Liquid Lectric Tape" or NEUTRAL cure Silastic or similar.......the 3M's are OK, don't know how well the Narva's work, but I do know the common cheap imitations are headache inducing rubbish!

Agree on those ****** connectors. On 3 different 4x4's I have had annoying electrical gremlins, each time when these were removed and the wires soldered the gremlins went away! (Or in the Lada on to something else!)

After just removing and refitting my ARB bar, thanks skip! I noticed the ARB Bar indicators are nicely wired in with plugs. Just the usual plastic 2 pin ones which you can get at supercheap. But how often are you likely to unplug them? If it were me I'd solder them

A 5 W flasher is way too dim!:o .......LED's are the way to go - but pricy!

Correct, but couldn't get LED's at the time and haven't got around to them yet.

I'm also still confused as to why an ARB Sahara bar needs flashers in it when it doesn't place any part of the bar over the Disco's indicators. Must be some ADR issue:confused:

a. Dont use scotch locks or the like they are crap and only belong on a temporary fix only or in a bin.

b. Wurth make a fantastic heat shrink joiner that has solder built in and you just use a lighter to melt them to do a permanent fix that is water proof but cost about a dollar each.
We use them under ground on the watering system solonoids and are much better to have in the tool box than scotch locks.

c. My trailer light flashes with the indicator and has done the whole time ive had the Disco and it's good because it tells me when a globe is blown on the car when only the indicator flashes and I just check the trailer lights before I drive off I see no use in having that light there other than that.

Do all Disco1s have this trailer light indicator? I have never had it come up in my 1994 model.

I have an ARB winch bar as well. Was on it when I got it so even with the indicators in the bar and the trailer I still have no trailer indicator light.

Maybe the previous owner removed the dash indicator bulb so the winchbar lights didn't make the trailer light flash?

I would imagine all D1's have them,,
mine had the bullbar from the factory,,
no trailer light,
added the trailer loom/plug,
bingo!
comes on all the time:D

Maybe this is why. Whoever the dill was that wired up my trailer plug connected it into the LHS tail light. Not the RHS where they would have found the trailer light loom. However if the bullbar lights should set it off then I thought it would have been a current draw thing and not a 'where it is connected' thing.

I might pull the instrument panel out next week and have a look. Need to glue a tab back together behind there anyway.

I have used the snap lock connectors for six years, I put them on as a temporary fit to my bull bar indicators, driving and fog lights and forgot about them until I read this thread.
Do you put the 5w in both globes or just one?

You probably used the good, genuine ones, which as I said earlier, are OK if you waterproof them.;)

Not sure but every updated interior one I have seen has it so maybe the older dashes didnt.

My mates 94 doesnt either.

It is a current thing and not where it is connected.

Mine's an April 94 and it has only come on once (When it should have with a hire trailer that had a blown globe)

Also have the ARB bar and indicators, have to check what watts the globes are though

Mine is a Feb 1994. It is the update model. I'll pull the dash out this week (maybe...) and have a look see.

They should have a dash light for the trailer brake lights as they are the only ones that are hard to check if they are working when by yourself.

anyone ever had this happen?

trying to stop the trailer light flashing so put led indicators in my arb bar, but didnt work, tried it in original indicators, nothing..... rear indicators, still nothing..... rear parkers nothing....

used 2 wires to jump it off the battery..... works

got off my butt and got the multimeter outta the box and found the wiring is around the wrong way for the leds to work (leds being polarity sensitive where filiment globes are not)

is this a land rover thing or has somebody botched it??

temporarily reversed the wiring on the bullbar lights and found the leds to be nowhere near bright enough, can anybody recommend a good led replacement supplier

I run 5W bulbs in my ARB bar to stop the trailer lamp flashing. They appear quiet bright enough.

I have the ARB Sahara bar which only has the centre hoop and it still has indicators in the bar. I think you'll find they just have to fit them now days.

Maybe it is because ARB use the same channel section for all of their bars and it is easier to fit the indicators than leave the holes out, if that makes sense:p .
