I really don't know mate. Even heard several learned university type yanks recently, saying that almost eveywhere Americans go, they get it all **** about face. 911 got them so freaked out, that even the old boogey man the red under the bed is completely forgotten and gone.

BTW, I have to hand it to the old Bin Laden for his understanding of psychological warfare. Take the date of the plane crashes, 11th of September, write it the American way September the 11th, and you have the American emergency service phone number, 911. Almost elegant as a double sided attack.

Something has to be done to stop all the deaths of innocent people around the world. There are some very angry people, who blame everything on the yanks, and also come from a way of life that is steeped in payback and bloodshed for generations. And they fervently believe they are justified in their actions.
Yeah, the yanks are terrified, and they should be as well, because these Jihadii see no rule or law , but the absolute littoral of their teachers, in the name, the name mind you, of religion, of Allah, of God.

This news report itself is probably the real danger in the whole stupid, typical, dumb yank kids prank. Almost 5 minutes of melodramatic garbage, about a few LED's on a punch board powered by a couple of Ever-ready's.

I don't know mate, I must be getting old ---- ish. Don't know if the kids need a kick in the pants or a pat on the shoulder. The cops only did what they had to do for public safety, they where in the right. But, those TV presenters?
What total melodramatic twits.

I don't know mate, their yanks. PASS, next question please, and make it an easy one?:(

I hear ya Shorty......... I think the US peeps ( generalisation) need to straighten up and consider the fact that they are not the be all and end all of human kind.

They dont speak for me or my Mother....nor my Brother or my Dog. I am not a Muslim.....I'm not of any faith, except my own moral beliefs.

We're a country in our own right. I'm not born here but I am a citizen. I consider myself Australian, I love Australia.

WE ARE NOT PART OF USA!

Yeah mate. I am dumbfounded, at the way our youth seems to have decided to become some psuedo-american colony. Pathetic angry boys in gangs with yank copy cat names, no respect for anyone or anything, unless it can out intimidate them. Public servants with ideas well above their station in life, re-interpreting legislation, then giving us the conditions we will abide by to suit them.

Come the revolution brothers and sisters, damn, that's right, they made a law against that, didn't they.

I want to buy an island about 3 1\2 miles offshore, and a realy big gun.

when you run a 24 hour a day news broadcaster any story is going to be a story - idiots.........

but

its not just the USA

i brought back a wiring loom with the inverter rectifer attached (flight) from Cairns to Brisbane, and told security what it was (for my SL125 Honda) and they went nuts and that was ten years ago....

not long after 9/11 our local laundry man left his briefcase in the NAB branch - which caused a complete lock down of the main street of alstonville - from 10am to 430pm!!!

a copper opened his briefcase and saw wires and that was that!

Rod always carries a multimeter.... as many of us do.....

mind you half of the village was at the pub accross the road, laughing hysterically..... a bomb in Alstonville?

paranoia is only ever your problem:D:D :D :D :D :D :D

or those looking to beat up a story:eek:

remember, after 9/11 the golden gate bridge was locked down for a while

the protection was about ten guys with rifles and two hummers - that'd would been a big help when a 747 gets tangled up in the hanging bridges' support wires.....

the funny thing about the 'global cops' is their ability to get into impossible situations - which are completely unfixable by their rules.......

Korea, Vietnam, Central America, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea

and all the others we're not supposed to know about....

still love visiting the USA tho', amazing place, some Yanks are actually quite nice people, but not those on the hill in DC.....

Strange, aren't they, them yanks! Give the shirt off their back to a visitor, welcome you into their homes, warm, generous, and utterly thick as a pair of short planks. They really aren't taught much about anywhere else in the world at school, it seems.
Everywhere America has any interest, the demands to be like them for their mind's sake, are backed with financial intimidation. )The Big Mac has to be this way and this way only. They even need to be told a Tuna is a fish, only in America, do you have to order a "Tuna fish sandwhich"). That is changing too, and that has Wall Street rattled. The EU is really taking money out of Wall Street at the moment, so, really, the only might America has ever had, their precious greenback, is a bit wobbly, in terms of global popularity, with the big end of town boardrooms.
Yes, Americans are worried, and rightly so. They have been a financial dictator for many years now, and they see their power and influence waning. This will set the big money chasers into a full on, back stabbing, frenzy, to keep hold of their privilegded lives. They will lie, cheat, doublecross, start wars. Anything, but accept the truth. They are not the be all and end all, and most of what Americans know is nearly as good as nothing. The world is not like in the story books after all, and it frightens them. We are really not that much different. "Make them stop, I don't like it". Sound familiar?:(

Having spent a few years 'stateside' I actually feel a bit sad for the rank and file - they're mushrooms - fed on bs and kept in the dark...

And some wonder about our educational standards...

I was on a plane once from Houston to NYC JFK and some dude jumped up and down about the flight running sooooo late - his opening line was

"hey I'm from New York (to which some others hooted) and I know people, get this bus rollin'........now.... peeepl are waiting for me for dinner....."

we got in at 1am for a 6pm touchdown

(forward spoiler malfunction MD89)

west of the mississippi, they seem a bit more 'easy'

great place for a drive, the USA...

I almost lived there forever, once upon a time.......

but then I wouldn't have met so many nice AULROvians......

I found out a couple of years ago just how paranoid the U.S. Military is. I was the pilot of a helicopter doing a film job for the ABC in Darwin. The shot we were after involved a low level run over water from inside the harbour, up and over Parliament House, to expose the rest of the city.

The problem was there was an American Naval ship tied up at the wharf nearby as I did the run. We stayed outside the 300 metre requirement for flying near people, buildings etc at low level. When filming, nothing is done in 1 attempt so we went down and did another run, once again well clear of the ship. By the time I'd finished my second run and got to Cullen bay (approx 1 min) Air Traffic Control (RAAF) was on to me, asking me to stay away from the wharf as they had just had a call asking me to stay clear, but also unaware of why.

After landing, the phones starting running hot with Police ringing to see what I was up too. Marine Police were the ones running security on the water and had a lot of explaining to do, although they were not concerned when they saw me flying as they knew the Helicopter.

As it turns out, after talking to Police, the good old U.S. boys had there guns trained on me and were prepared to shoot us down if we came back for a third attempt. Apparently this started some diplomatic incident that ended up being kept reasonably quiet.

Any of you Darwin members with a boat, head down to Stokes Hill Wharf next time the Marines are in town and see how close you can get before the Marine Police catch up with you.

Damn right there Greg.

Got arrested in Sydney harbour (by local water cops) for being to close to a visiting air craft carrier and we were only shooting a news segment from a boat...

they must've mistaken our camera for a rocket launcher:D

thermo nuclear device:D

star wars laser thingy:D

but just a sony betacam:cool:

another day i was just minding my own business (day off) going up harbour from Greenwich and got seriously yelled at by a military helicopter - appeared from nowhere - ordered to change course - (in a small runabout?) and escorted to a bay near the zoo.... a US fleet was coming into garden island......

how did they know i was carrying enough gear to sink an entire carrier battle group:D :D :D :D  from my little boat?

only joking...

The paranoia must stem from some deep seated fear of rejection. Or that they don't have much of a clue of anything.
years ago the USS Ranger, no 61, the aircraft carrier, was in town, thats probably the one you were filming graham.
It was huge , I thought how can i get on board, so went up to kings x police station spoke to them, they told me who to see down at garden island. Drove up to the gate spoke to the aussies at the gate, and they let me in, drove right up the wharf and parked next to the ship.( off course for those doubting about my front, i was wearing my uniform and was in a police car, with a big black dog in the back.)
Anyway the yanks had a gangplank going up to the hanger deck and a visitors table. it was mannned by a marine.spoke to him he was really polite. told me i would have to get rid of my pistol before going on board and they had an area for it. So i was escorted up to another area,on board near the control tower, met an officer, even saluted him, they like that sort of stuff. deposited the little thing in a safe , then the fun started, he pointed me to a door and told me to go through and find a sailor to take me aroudn the ship, i couldn;'t get through the door and there was a tarp next to it covering an area, so i thought thats what he meant so i pushed past the tarp, it was a fuelling point,i was alone at this stage, within 30 sec of getting through there were three big brutes of marines, two with shotguns and one with a pistol wanting to know what i was doing, once I sorted it out, I had my tour of the ranger. these blokes were serious, wouldn;t crack a smile.
Even in the ship, while being shown about we went past some secure area, the usual stuff, authorised personel etc, but the sign 'deadly force will be used against any unauthorised access ' got me. they'll shoot there own. Must have been the nuke room. sorry sir cannot confirm or deny that.
a few hours later when i finished the tour i got my pistol then headed back to the car, saw the same marines with the shotguns standing on the wharf. I didn;t know that was allowed.

if you look at a simple case scenario, in the movie business, it is ok for british actors to be british, but can someone tell me the most recent movie where an aussie played an aussie with the aussie accent.
Is it because most of them don;t know where australia is. I know the owner of the 7 motel in front royal virginia doesn't.

Did you not see the chaser war on everything where they are Yanks on the street in america where Australia was and most of them thought it was part of Europe.

Knew a carpet fitter that was working in America down south some where. When two blokes came up to him and said how good english he spoke. They then asked where he was from . He said England . At which point they asked himn what lanauge does England speak. His reply was in the form of,What lanauge do you speak and they said English and he said , well the clue is in the word English. :)
