Mreton Island - Easter

Has anyone been to moreton island over easter? is it busy? I've always wanetd to get there, will 4 days be enough to do some good exploring??

any tips?

Have done it the last two Easters - it's awesome. Not overcrowded and not bumper to bumper down driving down the beach like Fraser or Straddy.
4 days would be a good timeframe to see most of the island and what it has.

Dont plan on camping at Yellowpatch as it does get very crowded there as its a good place to get out of the se winds. Best to get there before good friday. Try to book your barge now as it may already be too late. Thats the best thing about Moreton, limited barges=limited number of humans.

if not yellow patches, where is a good place to camp? particularly if camping in your car?

Depends on your preference, there is great sites along the ocean beach, especially just south of the tangalooma track. You just have to drive up some of the access tracks and have a look. Along the inside of the island there are also camping areas, good for if you have kids because of the calmer waters. Yellowpatch, up the top is the best place in my opinion but like I said it does get crowded. Last time I went at easter was 3 years ago and arrived 4 days before easter. By the morning of good friday we had fools camping on the foredunes in front of us, not good. Which barge are you taking Combie or Venturer

Just came back from Moreton last week. Beautiful place. Easy driving.

Thanks for that. I reckon we will just find a pacth of sand along teh ocean beach so we can fish our hearts out.

As for barges, wouldnt have a clue - is there a betetr one, or cheaper one?? I'll probably book in the next day or so to be sure of a spot.

Jimmy,

Barges just depend on where you are and where you want to go.
Their prices are about the same $165 return or similar.
Combie Trader leaves from Scarborough harbour near Redcliffe, takes about 2 hours. Combie is an older style barge
Moreton Venture leaves from Port of Brisbane takes about an hour. Micat/Moreton Venture is a big new flash thing.

Combie will drop you at Bulwer (the northern end of Moreton)
Micat will drop you at Tangalooma Wrecks.
If you're heading the ocean, i'd go Micat, it drops you almost right in front of a track that goes straight through to the ocean side.

Brad McCarthy has one of his "dirty weekend" type books on Moreton, it's great. You cna get em at RACQ, camping stores or his website.
