Persoanlly l blame Ceaser, he ****ed the Gauls off with his tour in 56 BC and the French haven't liked foreign tourists ever since, see how they objected to the Germans in 1914-18 and 1939-45.
They created the EEC to keep the Poms out of europe and stop Aussie backpackers from touring.

I thought Paris had more probs with umm, migrants from former 'colonies' than from we Aussies who fought for their soil. Many Aussies still (under) in the Somme....

I found french people outside of paris very friendly and certainly loved aussies.:D
In a surf town of birritz a mate had a bad case of conjunctive itis and some random french people helped us out, driving us to their doctor and pharmacy all while they did not speak much english.
1 question though. I'm sure these "french people coming" are very nice but what is so special about them that sets apart from any other foreign tourist?
I think i may have missed a thread or 2 about them.

Did anyone else see the article on Robert and Martine in the Age newspaper a few weeks back ???
They were interviewed about their travels around Oz and their cooking etc but the interesting thing is that they had high praise for the Land Rover owners in Australia - how they had gotten a lot of support and guidance etc.

What's special about the Robert & Martine - absolutely nothing other than mid forties professional couple who have sold their Apartment in France, bought a Landrover fitted it out and decided to travel the world, keep a blob site on their travel adventures and write a cook book on international cuisine.
Robert is a ex-computer company executive and Martine is an ex-Head Hunter in job palcement, their site kooky net is a good read but unfortunately out of date in comparison to their travels with only the french version being updated on regular basis.
Yes they are working the media, 4wd industry, Landrover owners for accomodation, spare parts, equipment & kit to subsidise the expense of their world travel adventure but thats called sponorship and many do it these days.
So they are working or milking the system for their own benefit in the eyes of some and some believe that they should be fully self funding as its their adventure trip and there is no associated raising of money for causes or charity.
They have had mixed reception in Australia as shown by their interaction on this site but generally good impressions have been made with most people they have come into contact with.
As for a couple of people they are interesting to talk to, friendly and reasonable cooks, l had them spend time with me in Perth and enjoyed the interaction.
After my experience l wouldn't be adverse to assisting any other couple travelling the world who venture to Perth with the same sort of offer of accomodation and food for a few nights.

We really enjoyed the daytrip with Robert and the time they spent here.
Great to be able to interact with people from the other side of the world with many stories to tell. And if it wasnt for a common interest in Landys our paths wouldnt have crossed.
Last year Deb brought a Swiss couple and their son home, they had called into her ex employers place expecting to spend a nite on their organic farm in their campervan. It was 5pm,the ex employers were down rite rude and refused accomadation.Deb was embarresed and offered them a spot to park the camper,we had a great nite, they still send emails and postcards.
Would welcome international travelers/visitors again after 2 great experiences.
