Does anyone live around the Deloraine/Mole Creek area?
Just noticed a job going for a Ranger in that area and I'm going to apply.
I've been there before for a holiday but what is it like to actually live in that area? I have seen on the map it is about 70kms on the highway to both Devonport and Launceston from Deloraine.
I applied for a couple of jobs in Tassie 12 months ago and got nothing but thanks but no thanks letters. I'm guessing it is just easier to hire locally if there is a suitable person there already but it is worth a shot.
Any thoughts?

My brother and his family live in Mole Ck, (used to own the guest house). My sister and father both live in Chudleigh. Nice area especially if you like the quiet life. Great walking country nearby and Deloraine has a reasonable shopping centre. I suppose it depends on what you want from a locality.

I'm in launnie, not that far away. Jobs market here is pretty tight, but if you're the right person for the job it should be ok. Ranger at the caves ?

I was just after a locals perspective. Not really sure what info I'd get or was even after.
I loved Tassie while I was there. Just one big country town with totally different scenery to Qld.
I like the quiet life so long as it isn't too far from a bigger town. I work in Imbil at the moment. About 30mins from Gympie but still live in Brisbane on the weekends.
Nothing in Tassie is far from anywhere compared to Qld in my opinion.
The position is a Ranger at Great Western Tiers, Mole Creek. I'm more than qualified for it.
I just want to get out of where I am at the moment and far away wouldn't hurt. Also applying for Field officer jobs in NSW which are a bit closer to home. Not too interested in Qld Ranger positions as the pay is terrible.

Downside is small towns...everyone knows your business. Food is expensive. Its hard to get tradesmen to come out to do work. If you need specialist medical care you have to go to Launie or Hobart. Nearest hospital is Deloraine but its only a cottage hospital...nearest major is Launie or (right that ones gone... CRAFT!! :D but there is another one!!). Public transport is dismal. They do at least have broadband now ;) and don't forget that every holiday you do on the mainland means you have to cross the moat!! (one of the major factors for us not choosing to live there).
Is rangers pay higher in Tas than in Qld?
Well the only tradesmen that have ever come to my house are the guys who laid our new carpet a couple of years ago. We'd rent though more than likely so not our problem ;).
Very rarely use public transport in Brisbane and we have a bus stop in our street and a train station a 10min walk away. Only use trains if I go to the CBD and only cause it is easier than traffic and parking. We didn't have that trouble when we drove to Launceston.
Crossing the moat does concern me since I like my driving holidays however I am sure we would find enough to do in Tassie for a few years at least. We can fly everywhere else if need be.
Rangers do get paid a lot more in Tassie than in Qld for from what I can see is an equivalent job. Like around $15k more. As does NSW.
I have a degree and experience though and have never had an interview for a ranger position anywhere so as we probably all already know ranger and similar positions are ****ing hard to get. But impossible to get if you don't try and just apply.

Deloraine is in a beautiful part of Tassie, very pretty area and close to some spectacular scenery.
