Hey All
Got my new 35m length of Amsteel blue winch rope, aluminium hawser and nice big yellow hook from okoffroad.com the other day. I got free delivery from the States as my father was over there for a conference (Colorado which is next to Oklahoma). I will be installing in on the disco on friday hopefully.
I have only ever run steel rope and was wondering if there are any words of wisdom out there about how to install (i have a warn xd9000) and how to use it so it lasts?
Cheers

I have never used it (no winch) but from what I have read: Be aware that it will abrade if dragged over rocks. Wash it every now and then (use washing machine, don't let the missus catch you). Don't overheat it (it might melt).

Well having had it on my front and rear Warn 8274 (or high mount as you call it) . You will love the stuff. Its great stuff some much better than wire . Does not kink and does not bit back.
It comes back off nicer if you just throw it on. If you thread it on like a wire rope and have it all in line then it gets it self caught on it self and then as the winch is panning out the rope will start pulling in. Fun in winch challenges and causes the Co driver to start swearing at you (Alot)
BUT sand mud and stuff like that will wear it down over time (it gets inside the rope and just eats away at it).. So make sure its clean. (the washing machine brings them up great , but best to make sure the misses is out at the time:) )
With the warn you have they are ok apart from the fact the brake is on the drum (unlike the 8274). So if the drum gets hot then it will melt the rope. So don't winch your self or anyone else down hill .
But all in all it will last much much longer than wire, never mind the fact it is a hundred time safer than wire, but it does still hold engery and will recoil but no where near as much as wire
