Tyre Height

I want to raise my Range ROver 1993 with electronic air suspension ride height by at least 1 inch by increasing the height of my tyres not necessarily interested in larger width tyres wihtout having to alter or cut my wheel arches.

Tread shouldn't be overly aggressive as mainly have sand in WA to run over

Any recommendations on tyre combinations to consider

Most of the tyre company websites have specs on overall diameter for each type of tyre and the largest rim width it will fit on.

If you are running I'm guessing 235/70 tyres that means your tyre width is 235mm and your sidewall height is 70% of that. (ummmm.....164.5 mm )

If you go to say 245/75 your sidewall height will be ..( tap tap tap tappity tap )... 183.75mm. ( by my calcualtion ) So each sidewall will be 19mm higher ... double that ( two sidewalls) and you get 38mm total increase in wheel diameter ....that's about 1.5 inches. However you only get your diff an extra 19mm off the ground.

You can work out the same way for other size tyres say 245/70, 235/80 etc.

( god i hope this is right otherwise I'll get shot down in flames on here :D

As for brand I am happy with my Cooper ATR's for general road and light offroad.

Also, please remember, that with increased tyre height, comes increased rotational circumference. You will lose out on pure acceleration, a little bit, and you will get increased road speed at the wrong indicated on your speedo. Not by a lot, but, if Mr Plod has had a bad day. Oh, and any out of balance problems are magnified by the extra gyroscopic forces of the extra diameter.

Hey Jamo, last time I was in WA, the law tried to make me illegal. 1977, front page news, nasty bad sailor men, gambling, drinking, not being nice to Police.
I am so glad the old Freo lock up is now a tourist trap. Bad place that.

So wat happens to would be tourist folk who lob over there with 35's on a fender or rangie whatwould mr plod have to say or can we get away with it if regoed in another state

I'm not sure Mr Plod would actually do anything unless the offending vehicle was doing something else illegal. And if it's legal in another state I think there's a set number of days/months that you can drive it within WA without having to conform to our laws.

Dudes with 100mm or more lifts are more likely to come under scrutiny as that requires an engineering certificate.

It's more an insurance thing.
