I've never seen it before.....

Both of yours (Disco and Fender) are 95 model....Is there a link there for some reason?

My Fender was 95.....No "X"'s on front diff though.

Ahhhhh the old X.....

I once asked a guy, who told me it was to mark the spot where he buried his treasure. But his parrot kept annoying me with its screeching and he complained of not being able to walk on sand with a wooden leg.....

Has anyone ever thought that the traditional pirate would be stuffed in real life??? how does a Pirate walk on the sand when he stops to bury his treasure?????
Is this worth creating a new thread over????

My D1 was steam cleaned yesterday. When I got it back, I noticed the X as well on mine. The yellow filler plugs indicates, I think, that one-shot grease is in the swivels.

Correctamundo Mr B....and I too had an x painted on my the front diff(MA built 3/94). I've since painted over it, but I'm perplexed as to why it was there in the first place.
Do you have pics yet of the new arrival?

G'day Incisor :)

It might be worth giving MR a ring, as it would be some type of code for diff/axle configeration, similar to what Ron suggested;)

Hey, the old smileys are back:)

One particular machine I deal with at work gets a spot of one of four colours on the pumpkin as a quick ID of the diff ratio on the line.
Mebbe something similar? Was there a choice?

Do you have a mark on the plastic level/fill plug as well ???

I always thought they were there to be aligned - so you didn't overtighten the plastic plug

............but then again I may have been drinking as much as sclarke:D :D :D :D

Plastic plugs should be tossed and replaced with real plugs.
