G'day Guys,
at the end of this year I get my 10 years long service with my employer - 2 month off, also hope to be taking my annual leave and some unpaid leave to make up 4 months travelling around Aus.
My plan is to leave about June / July time and head from Sydney over to Alice / Darwin / Kimberly / Rest of the West Coast / Perth and then train it all back to Sydney.
Is this the best time of year to be doing such a trip? What pittfalls does anyone see? Anyone else done or doing anything similar?
Dont worry, my sister has already volenteered to look after my Rangie / D100 / house / boat etc :D
Cheers

Dry Season runs May to October in Northern Australia so for travel best time of year. Depending on when last rains fall and how hot it gets will determine road accessibility and water crossings for your trip.
If your going up North must include Lawn Hill if at all possible
You can cut across from Qld to NT in several places good crossing point is Boulia brings you North of Alice Springs so you can double time and see Kings Canyon Alice Springs Ayers Rock Ulru and the Olgas and then back up to Katherine Darwin Arhmen Land and then across the top into WA and wander about.
To travel inland south from Port Hedland to Mt Tom Price you need a permit from Pilbra Iron to run along the access service road for the railway line available from the information centre.
Coastwise fishing good anywhere along the top WA and Exmouth does 2 -3 day fishing excursions out as does Dampier where they go out 60 miles to the Montebello Islands for some big fish.
Monkey Mia now developed to the tourist max, when l was there in 1984 you could camp on beach alone and spend time with dolphins unattended now groups of 100 plus one person selected from crowd and camping pay the max in fees.
Ningaloo reef , Coral Bay worth a few days as is Kalbarri further down coast.
Carnarvon large fruit growing area on coast nice place to stay and refresh yourself
