Anyone know for sure if D1 diff centres are interchangeable with D2 ones? and visa versa?

I know that the D1 and D2 use the same airlockers up to a certain date in the D2 model. Even after that the front is still the same.
Don't know about the entire diff being the same though.

Disco 1s are 10 splines and Disco 1 updates are 24 spline so It will depend on which D1 you are comparing a D2 too.
As to the actual question - dunno but I assume the Updates and D2s are the same.

As far as I'm aware the 24 spline D1 diffs are interchangable with the D2 diffs, but the diff centres are slightly different in the cross shaft design.

Cheers guys,
Was only considering 24 spline - would never even think of using 10 spline.
So if they are interchangeable I could pull the Detroits out of my Rangie and put into a D2 for the big trip?

I don't know if that is as straight forward as it sounds, it just sounds too easy.

They are interchangeable, but as slunnie says, the crossshafts are slightly different and the side gears are different. Same everywhere alse,
