I've set the initial ignition timing for my 93 Disco1 V8 3.9 Lo Comp. auto on 12 BTDC @ 700 rpm no vacuum[hot curb idle] - I'm using 98 RON.....I realize that the "recommended" figure is 2 BTDC +- 1.....but my setting seems/feels to give far superior responsiveness and as "good" (this, is of course, a relative term) fuel economy as I've come to expect and not getting any pinging.:)
Past 3.5 and 3.9 RRC's (all various 81-89 carby and EFI models) I've had, I used to run on 6 BTDC, but having experimented a fair bit on this truck, I'm quite happy with the "responsiveness, performance and feel" of this figure.:D
What have other people set their's on [Disco's and RRC's], assuming it's got a user adjustable setting?:)
