can oil in the injection harness be prevented in anyway ?? also how does the oil get in the ECU box ??

Have a search on the forum you'll find the answers. In general terms the oil travels up the insulation via capillary action. Nobody seems to have solved a way of preventing it...yet!
Check the harness plug at the front of the engine every so often.

I've got mine booked in next week for the big fix ($350) early next week,will post it up as soon as its done.

Quite a common problem with the td5, easy to fix, so far i never had to replace the complete loom down to the ecu. Take the valve cover off, replace the wiring harness in the cylinder head, cost around 75$. Keep cleaning the oil that makes it as far as the ecu, it’ll stop after a while. :cool:

dont know if it is a permanent fix or not, but the guys at MR auto reckon it is, replaced the injector harness and fitted as the quote says"New sealed harness".Total cost for the job was around $300, takes around an hour.I dont imagine if they have come up with a permanent fix they would be telling anyone, they have a business to run after all.

I spoke with the guys at MR the other day and they tell me they pop the back off the plug where the wires converge (the cylindrical plug of the injector harness) and fill the plug completely with high temperature silicone. Then put the back, back on. This fills the back of the plug and stops oil sitting in the hollow plug where it eventually works its was downwards via the pins and on through the harness. It is not a 100% fix but does slow it down they say. It has to be better than leaving a hollow plug there whih will obviously fill up with oil.

The supposed new type harness is not a total fix and from what I have seen is no different to the original. Damn poor design.The o rings when they wear are the initial source of the problem. Have not found a permanent solution yet.

I also opened up the plugs that go into the injectors and sealed them up aswell as doing the top of the main plug inside the tappet cover,checked it last week still no sign of oil at the plug been nearly a year now

Im still working on an external engine solution for it, been speaking with the airframe mechs and apparntly there is nothing new under the sun.. The Idea I came up with is in use in some areo engines for similar reasons...
