Dad has a mate with a V8 Disco (series I, so it must be the 3.9L EFI), he is having troubles with it over fueling, he has replaced the ECU or a computer of some sort, but its still doing it. I havent had a chance to look at the car yet, but from what i have been told it is running rich all the time and fouls the plugs on a regular basis, its not using any oil at all. Could it be the Oxygen sensor or something sending dodgy messages? Matt

Quite possibly air flow meter.

Quite possibly air flow meter.
Thats what i meant, are they in the pipe running from the air box to the intake? Any idea what a replacement is worth

Yes it is in the air line between the filter box and manifold.
What are they worth, I had the price somewhere - I'll look for it.

i replaced my air flow meter last year pretty big money, i think around $700 i got one from uk from mgspares for about $500 if my memroy serves me right, i still have my old air flow meter if he wants to throw that in to see if it cures the probelm before he splahses out on a new meter.
unfortunalty i dont think they can be cleaned or repaired by the diy home bodger.

Surely if it is a problem like those indicated then the check engine light will be coming on - I suggest disconnecting the battery - this will clear the error codes in the ECU - then reconnect so that the only fault codes will be those causing the problem and take it to a stealer to get them read - if the problem is fuel injection related it should show up - will save replacing things unnecessarily - like the ECU.
If the problem is ignition, then it will not show up unless it has an impact on the injection system.

The first thing to replace is the temperature sensor. They are $30. See if it reads less than 300 Ohms with the engine warm.
Its quite easy to test a MAF. All you do is find the output wire and see if the voltage increases with revs.
Testing by replacing everything can get expensive!!!

I wish you luck with getting a response from this mob. They never once replied to 3 E-mails from me regarding AFMs.

If it's running rich all the time......try spray cleaning the MAF's inside with Carby/EFI Spray Cleaner,,,,,do a thorough job........especially if you use other than Genuine LR Air Filters or other quality brand of PAPER type filters.......NOTE: K+N and similar style filters conrribute to MAF malfunction by not filtering air well enough and their oil coating both the reference and the hot wires in the MAF device.......
.......Also clean and make sure the Coolant Temp Sensor (to the 14 CUX ECM) is making good contact......if it's not or is kaput.....you'll have the ECU enriching the mix and causing sooted up plugs.

read once that to check the two temp sensors, both should be around the same ohms.

Could also be the cold start injector stuck on and over fueling it try unpluging it its on top of the inlet manifold on the drivers side
